      Dying in a dream

I've heard that if someone dies in their dreams, they die in real life by a heart attack. I don't think thats possible because I've died twice in my dreams. Tell me your ideas and thoughts on the subject. I'm very curious.

My dream dealt with being shot, blacking out and switching dreams then being killed by a ghost and exploding. But the second one when I died, my spirit was still there and I saw the last few seconds of what happened afterwards.

Is it really possible to die in dreams? Or am I just messed up?

I have heard that it is possible in dreams to die, and I too heard before that you die IRL if you die in your dream. It was because your mind thinks you're dead, so it shuts down which is why you would die. BUT, I heard after I heard THIS that it's false. You can die in dreams, and live. I think that you CAN die for real if you have some rare disease or something, though.
If you see a strange typo in my post, blame my iPad for that.

Plenty of people have died in their dreams and lived to tell the tale. I think the myth is entirely baseless. Its an old wives tale as far as I'm concerned.

I've died in my dreams quite a few times.

I recently had a dream that I got sucked into a tornado during a camping trip, and was killed almost instantly. After I was torn apart all was calm and I was floating bodiless in a peaceful dark void. My first thought was to be thankful that it happened so fast that I didn't feel any pain. After that I started to get upset that I was not going to be able to let anyone know what had happened to me. I woke up shortly. I wish it would have lasted longer because it was a very interesting death dream, and I probably would have eventually figured out that I was dreaming.

I suppose if somebody had a really bad heart and they got scared badly enough, it might be possible for a dream to cause a heart attack. But other than that it's a complete myth.

Of course you live after dying in your dream. But I guess it is possible for an old person with heart problems to have a dream that increases their heart-rate to the point that they die. But unless anyone here is under those circumstances, then I don't think we will die from our dreams anytime soon.

I've died twice in dreams and I just woke up on both occasions; I wouldn't worry.

Here's an old reply of mine from another thread: http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...ad.php?t=91223

"I've had many dreams in which I've died.
It used to annoy me as a kid because my dreams were so contrary to what many people believed.

My coolest dying dream was of me walking across a very tall train trussel (sp). On a dare, some of my friends and I walked across it in real life. We made it safely across, but my unconscious mind used to torment me about the dangerous possibilites.
In the dream, I was walking across it, but a train came and I couldn't get out of the way. The train ran me over and I was a literal pile of goo with eyeballs looking out rofl. I watched as the train disappeared and thought "I'm dead". I then woke up

In another dying dream, I was a passenger in a car one of my uncles was driving. There was a car accident and he slammed on his brakes. I flew out of the windshield and, unfortunate for me, a train derailed at the exact moment I landed. It squashed my head and I HEARD my skull crack and felt a "headache" of such intensity not known in life. Again, I realized I was dead and I then woke up."

I've heard of people dying in their sleep before. It's sometimes attributed to a bad dream but I think they have other health issues going on.

Dying is actually one of my dream signs. Usually I'm drowning. I'll hold my breath in real life (or so I believe), but once instinct kicks in I start breathing again and- wow- I can breathe under water, so I must be dreaming

I've died many many times in dreams. It doesn't happen very often anymore, but it's happened enough in the past. I call "Busted".

I pick up a half-eaten copy of a book by Neil Gaiman, and decide this is all his fault.

I've died so many times over the years, in both lucids and nonlucids. Death in dreams led me to dream-heaven, dream-hell, dream-reincarnation, false awakenings, and real life awakenings. There have been many, many times which I utterly believed that my life would be ended right there.

Dream pain can be pretty realistic. Dream terror can be as scary as any real-life terror. But unless you're prone to fatal heart attacks every time something scares you IRL, I think you're pretty safe.

I've heard that when sleeping- if you die in real life, you die in your dream.

Ive died in multiple dreams but the one i remember most was very interesting.
In the dream i knew it was the end of the world and you could see asteroids in the sky. I went outside to say good bye to my friends and when the asteroid hit i lay down and screamed something. After i was dead i felt a huge lifting sensation and i was a spirit flying upward. The dream only lasted for about 5 minutes but it was very interesting.

My sister told me that you can't die in dreams, not properly. I said this is not true, "i had a dream where i got shot and came back as a ghost", she said
"Yes you were a GHOST so that means you're still in the dream"
That's an interesting way of looking at it I think.
I think you can die in dreams but not in real life, so don't worry!

Though i did wach this programme onece, where all these men who had been in a war had to be woken by their wives, bacause they were thrashing about, making noises to be concerned about. It happened to lots of them and if the wives didn't wake them up they died. One guy (who was woken up by his wife) was dreaming that his spirit was travelling back to his homeland.

      ...hmm interesting yes?
But i don't think you have to worry about dying.
I've had loads of dreams where I've died
      -I've been shot many times
      -come back as a ghost
-jumped out of a window and died
the list goes on. You don't die

I've heard of people (in dreams) jumping off of buildings or what have you as a form of reality check.

For myself, I've died a couple times, I do remember drowning once. but I've faced near-death many times in my dreams. In this one dream, I was holding a small machine with a counter on it that had the amount of time left until I was going to "die". After I died, I went through this tunnel and then before I knew it I was in this space-ship looking room, with a small hallway, green and orange colored (bright colors) mechanical doors that led to portals. I saw my dad there too, and we were getting ready to go on missions . And I was about to go onto a transporter pad to take on my assignment and then I woke up.

yeah I have died numerous times in my dreams and lived to tell the tale!! However, if it is true then it too late to find out.. am I right? I think they are unrelated. As someone mentioned above it just a wives tale. You die in you dreams, shit happens....become lucid and kick ass!

Your brain never thinks its dead: it being dead means that there is no thinking, therefore your mind cannot trick itself into death.

I've also died in dreams numerous times, and I'm still alive as far as I know.

I have died in y dreams too many times to count. Dozens by gunman in bad recurring nightmares, and once a week or so ago by a blocked coronary artery (lol i was like wtf?! when i woke up, but i think my brain is telling me to eat healthier since i eat really greasy and fatty foods, gotta love fast food!) Here is a link of when i recorded my dream and past death dreams. http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...ad.php?t=95916
All that happens for me is i see a white light, still hear what is going on, feel nothing, then wake up im still 100% fine except for chronic dry skin, which isn't a big pain
