Confusion on whether I'm lucid or not....

Okay so I've been keeping a dream journal for about a week now and I've never had a problem remembering my dreams, even before starting this journal, and frequently throughout the day I'll ask myself "Am I dreaming?", and some weird things are starting to happen in my dreams. For example, ever since starting this "training". I've been having a quite a few false awakenings, and dreaming that I'm falling asleep in my dreams. I've been having what I'm calling for lack of better terms, semi-lucid dreams. Where I realize I'm dreaming but I'm not in full control, and I'm still immersed in the dream reality, like I can't think about waking life at all. For example: Last night I was dreaming I was in a restraunt with my friends ordering food, and I knew I was dreaming so I knew it didn't matter what I ordered or how much I ordered and I kept trying to tell my friends that this was a dream and I was lucid but they didnt believe me. But I feel like I didn't fully understand I was dreaming, but yet I was somewhat aware. So I'm having this battle in my mind that I'm either slowly gaining lucidity every night, or I've become so obsessed with Lucid Dreaming, that I mearly just dreaming that I'm having lucid dreams. So if anyone has had this expeirence or feelings, please let me know.

From the example you've given, I'd say you were semi-lucid. It's like acknowledging that you're dreaming in the back of your mind, but you're not lucid enough to really consciously accept it and break away from the dream plot. I've had a few of these, so you just have to work on more awareness during the times you reality check. Really look around and consider the fact that you could be dreaming.

Once you have a full LD, you'll wonder how you didn't know you were dreaming before you became lucid. This is the same principle you have to cultivate in real life. You could be dreaming at any moment.

Anyways, it sounds like you're on the right track.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

Actually, I think you were lucid, being lucid is only knowing it is a dream, while in the dream, the thing is, even though you were lucid, followed the dream plot instead of stop and think about goals, stabilize and drag your attention somewhere else, which in turn made you lose lucidity. Memory not working fully is normal in lucids btw, I mean, we don't even remember everything in waking, so why would we in dreams?
