      Stealing From My Subconscious?

While not strictly a lucid related thing, I'll start you off with a dream I had. Me and my friend are walking through a fancy hotel. We're wearing suits. We get to a hotel room, and break open the door. We kill the guards inside, then go into the bathroom. There's a safe. I start trying to crack it, when my friend is killed. I turn to shoot his killer, but I'm killed first, and wake up.
Now, with this dream in my mind, a question was raised in my head; can I steal information from my head? Like, for example, say I have a math final tomorrow. I haven't studied. That night, while dreaming, is it possible for me to break into my mind, steal everything I know about math, then be ready for the quiz? This is an example, of course. If you've had any experiences like this, or have any info, please tell. Thanks.

Guess you've seen Inception, too, then?

Haha... yeah... But it was Inception that lead me to lucid dreaming, so thank God for that. So, anyone out there with any info or experiences? Or am I just being wishful?

What you'd be 'stealing' is something you already know. With that in mind, a safe would be symbolic of an exchange with your subconscious (another approach would be to summon a dream guide, and to ask for such info); however, in this case you need not 'crack' the safe given that it is your own mind. You should have access to it freely. The safe should only be symbolic insofar as generating the expectation for it to hold something of importance. Creating the unnecessary condition, that you should not have access to it, is essentially suppressing the information.

Just my interpretation. Not necessarily true.

Huh. Confusing stuff, Mr. Transitory. But, back to my example; can I... let's say 'retrieve'... information from my mind? Like in my example. Because that could really come in handy for my quiz tomorrow.

Yea I've been wondering the same thing I mean it should be possible since everything is stored in the subconscious mind and when u lucid dream u're in direct contact with ur subconscious

I would think that being in a dream is being at a closer level to your subconscious. Almost as if they're 2 completely separate entities, your subconscious being the world around you and your conscious being the observer (or master in the case of an LD). I personally can't see obtaining information (such as a review for a test) from your subconscious being very beneficial. While it might help reinforce the material in your mind and make you do better, it would likely take just as much time and effort as you would need to put into studying. And lets be honest, who wants to use their LD's to study for school? I'd personally rather use the information from my subconscious to relive old memories or conjure up old friends and deceased relatives. Studying is best left to waking life

You have to keep in mind that it's all in your head. (lol)
If you didn't study, there's nothing to steal because you don't know it.
Everything in your dream world is just a projection of what and who you know, and everything is driven by the schema your mind believes in (a safe contains important information).

Maybe you can do this, but there's still a chance that the information given to you is false. For example: 2+2=5

I understand,Cayne. But keep in mind that that was just an example. I don't mean for that specific thing. Just the idea of retrieving or reinstating things that I already know but have forgotten from my mind is the whole point of this. Like if I remember going to a really nice hotel when I was a child. I can remember bits and pieces of the trip, but I want to remember everything. Can I go into my subconscious during a lucid dream, with the notion of looking for that memory, and find it, is really what I'm kinda trying to get across. Oh, and Ruba, when you wrote "Theres nothing to steal because you dont know it," I disagree. I was in class when in was being taught. I might not have been paying attention or taking notes, but I still heard it, and it would've been stored in my mind. So, while I don't remember it, I have learned it. It's just a matter of getting to it.

It's truly amazing what the subconscious can absorb... I would think that its entirely possible to access information in your subconscious inside an LD. I suppose if I wanted to relive an old memory, I would try navigating to a 'memory archive' (which would hopefully manifest itself physically inside the LD) and try searching through it for the desired memory or piece of information. I would personally picture a library building to make my mind believe that information is stored there and that the stored information is accessible.

Just be aware that there's alot of subtle nuances to interacting with your subconscious and having never tried the method I just wrote about, I can't claim that it even works. It sounds about right though. Hopefully this helps

Cool. I like the whole library archive idea. I agree that it sounds plausible.

Indeed - it is possible that during class you had unconscious awareness where you did not hear what was being said, but nonetheless listened.

Also keep this in mind: depending on the person, we may tend to rely on left-brain interpretations or right-brain interpretations of a particular phenomenon - using a hypothetical example, this may result in listening to the lyrics of a tune rather the melody and emotion being conveyed, or vice versa. You receive both; however, due to hemispheric dominance in a particular activity, it is filtered out from conscious experience when hemispheric interaction occurs across the corpus callosum. Ultimately, the lyrics and emotion were experienced, but one was consciously experienced, and the other unconsciously. And, it may be possible to recover that other side of the experience from dreams.

Hmm... very interesting. i don't really know if that's possible but it sounds about right. considerig the chaotic nature of dreams i have no idea if it would work, but i might wanna try this out. i had thought of something like this to recover cool songs that i've forgotten. i'll try it and let you know how it goes.

This is great. I love hearing all this information that backs up the idea, and almost nothing said to shoot it down. I now have a good 98% belief that this is possible. One more thing though. Will I'm sure it's possible to retrieve forgotten information from one's mind during a LD, I'm just wondering... how hard would it be? Would there be obstacles, or guards like in my dream in the first post of this thread?

Only if you expect them to be. if it's a library though... do you see people with guns guarding every book in the library? Info in there is free. if you do it in a library there shouldn't be guards. if you consider this 'stealing' then there's a good chance there will at least be a couple of locked doors in your way, because that gives the impression that you're breaking into your mind. i would think that your sub-c freely gives info, since it's a part of your mind. of course dreams are different for each person, so there's no way to say for certain.

I have wondered about this also. For example if you wanted to go into your memories in a dream and actually watch them like watching a movie, or re experience them completely. You could relate it to Assasssins Creed where you go into your mind and unlock or find old memories that you cannot recall in walking life, but in your dream you can re experience them. Lets say if you were four years old in a car wreck but you don't remember it. You could go into your dream and find that memory and experience it with every detail. People might disagree with this but just think, You pick up everything and store it in your brain. Since you can do such elaborate things in a lucid dream. Surely your mind has the power to unlock your old memories.

      However just a concept.

Remember that anything can happen in your dream. In your memory something from the dream may happen like your riding your bike and there is a flying pig next to you, for example. Another thing is your mind might make up the memory.

Huh, a false memory? Weird to think you can create a memory, but have full belief of it being real... but that's aside the point. I understand what Wristblade was saying. If I were to store my memories in an archive fashioned as a library, accessing them would be easy, no guards, locked doors, and what have you. So, what if I were to make my archive a bank? Locked safes, guards with guns.

You sure want to break into your memories instead of freely accessing them. If that's what you want , try it and see what happens.

The over-arching point that Raetin is trying to convey (and I think the OP is missing), is that you have no way to know whether the information you will be getting from your "vault" is going to be correct. Things just don't usually work like that, in dreams. You can get some insight, and you may pick up things that you weren't consciously aware of, but - at some point - you will get false information. So it's not a very accurate way of cramming for a test.

Koo Koo cachu. Haha yah Raetin you're right. I do want to break into my memories. The way I see it, I should have fun with this. I have all the time in the world to do it, so why would you want to just get it over with? By making myself have to break in, there's a likelier chance I will fail, whether I be killed and wake up or get stopped by a vault or safe. This gives kind of a video game aspect to it: if I fail, I can retry anytime. If I do it, I could recreate it, but add more obstacles. I wouldn't like just walking into a library mind archive, getting the info, and leaving. It just wouldn't be fun. And I agree with you, Oneironaut, I will get false info at some point.
