Bizarre dreams never lead to lucidity!

A lot of people use bizarre unrealistic dreams as the prompt for lucidity. Opposite for me!

My lucids usual originate from standard regular dreams that just involve me walking around a regular place such as my home, etc. I suddenly realise I'm dreaming and a whole host of awareness comes flooding in.

In comparison, the craziest dreams never promote lucids because I'm too caught up in how @!#$ed up the situation is - last night after watching "Blood Diamond" - a horrifically violent movie, I dream I am in an unknown house tasked with playing some kind of game involving me getting to the top of the house. I have to perform each action/movement correctly. I get to the first floor, two people are there, I try and talk to them. Immediately they freeze, someone comes up and shoots them in the eyes. I start again, walk past them to the door ignoring them, walk through the door, and then meet another guy. I speak to him, he freezes - I'm trying to tell him not to worry, he's about to get shot but he's going to respawn so don't worry about it but too late, he's been shot in the head. How much weirder do you want than that? No lucidity though

True, some people become lucid under strange or unusual circumstances, but not everyone. I don't, for instance - I usually become lucid under relatively normal dream circumstances!

It sounds like your LDs start off in a normal way (if you can even define "normal" way). There isn't really anything wrong with becoming lucid in only normal situations. Maybe it's just a coincidence that you aren't becoming aware in the more intense and unrealistic dreams? Or, maybe it's because in waking life, you don't focus on awareness and question reality when you're in faster-paced situations - after all, it sounds like the dream you had last night was pretty frantic, yet you didn't go conscious. So maybe if you focus on your methods at more times than you currently are, it'll lead to more encounters with lucidity.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

I think I have found the reason as to why I also only go lucid under normal circumstances after reading Puffin's post lol...

I only practice awareness in areas I am familiar with. For example my house. Most of my RC's are done in my house/room, and some are done in random places.
So when I dream about me waking up in my room or walking around in my house... I immediately do an RC (look at the clock/question my reality). Then I go lucid.

Although I would really like it if I were to become lucid in some fantasy land :p

Personally i can have the oddest things happen to me, like having a giant 3 headed ogre mage knock my door down and dance on the table and not become lucid. Just an example, I dont have any sick ogre fantasy.

This is true for me too. In most of my dreams I'm too busy to perform a check.

I saw this 5year old kid power slam like he was King James and it didn't trip me up at all. Inconsistencies trip me up into a lucid but i rarely spot them.

most of mine start pretty normal in a situation like at my house or just walking. but they can get pretty effed up after that like gnomes and flying and weird ninja fights and stuff.

but usually the prompt for lucidity is just a sudden awareness, usually in a normal situation - like at the house where i grew up.
