By starting off going to sleep knowing that you will have one of these dreams you are automatically doing the following:
1. Believing that you will have a very vivid dream that you will have no control over, that will frighten you.
2. Focused on having a dream of that exact type before falling asleep, so your final thought before sleeping is about something disturbing and out of your control.
Fear and panic inhibit absolutely any chance of control over a dream.
In order to gain control over these dreams, you need to believe you can. If you have any doubt whatsoever, even the smallest tinge, the end result will be the result of your doubt and not your intended result. It's not that you actually cannot control the dreams, it's that you are attempting to control them without a firm belief in yourself as the master of your own dream. If you want something to change, demand that it change and be of the firm belief that whatever you say will go into effect instantly before your eyes. If it doesn't happen, you had doubt, try again, put more emotion into the demand, and let fear be as far from your mind as the north pole is from the south. But there is something else I want to bring your attention to:
These recurring dreams, no matter how disturbing can be eliminated very easily. In your dreams, nothing can hurt you, and if you ask a question of a nightmarish figure or dream character, you will get a very complete answer. All you have to do, is without fear, approach the root of the problem that makes these dreams disturbing and ask "What do you represent?" or "What is it that you want?" and note the answer you receive. Most times the character will reply they are some part of you, or some situation from your past or future that needs dealing with. If there is no particular figure and the scene itself is what is disturbing, call out to the dream itself and ask "What does all of this represent?". You will (most likely) hear a voice from behind the dream answer your question, or you'll see the answer appear near you. The real key is that you have to gather up bravery and face these dreams once, gather all the information from them, and they will go away.
Dreams are also full of symbolism. Take note of the different things you see, and research their symbolic meanings to help piece together the meanings of these dreams before you head to bed tonight to really get down to the root of the problem.
