      Questions about my recent lucid~

Third Lucid (well...Semi-Lucid but who cares about that...) Dream and I wasn't even trying. =]

As with my other Lucid Dreams I become spontaneously aware I was dreaming after "waking up" from my dream bed. It's really weird. Perhaps waking up in my room is a dream sign unto itself? o-o

Anyway, after I got out of bed (I used to have this problem on insane lethargy in my other two lucid dreams but it seems that it doesn't affect me anymore, so I'm pretty happy about that.) I did some reality checks to confirm me dreaming. I did the finger through hand, and basically just looking at my hands, which turned invisible? (God knows how I remembered to RC...)

So, my problem is. Just like in my last LD which started in my room, I have this problem of "leaving" or going into another setting. See. This time around, my parents were down stairs. I was thinking about just going downstairs and walking out the front door. My parents aren't the kind that would let me do that, so in my dream I decided against it.

Actually though, I think I did change my setting though. I kind of sat down next to my bed and closed my eyes, willing myself to be someplace else. After a few second I felt this surge of energy and I opened my eyes cause it just felt like I changed the setting.
I was right. But I don't really remember anything after that...(Curse stupid finals making me lazy and not writing in my DJ!)

      Questions:
      1. How can I overcome confronting my parents in a dream?
      2. Is the whole sitting down and willing a change a viable method of dream control? Has it been heard of before?

Thanks for your time and answers!

In 99.9% of cases, dream signs and reality checks don't cause lucidity. Well, if you're already semi-aware and just need that extra small boost to become lucid, they can help in that sense. But your consciousmind does most of the work.

If you practice being aware or questioning if you're asleep when you get up in the morning, or when you go to bed (or just have LDing on your mind), you have a chance of becoming lucid in this location in a dream - okay, I lie. Awareness is often general and not isolated to one activity or room you're in, so it doesn't really matter where you practice it in waking life - it can transfer to any area in your dream, although personally I suggest practicing RCs and awareness anywhere you can.

I've often had false awakenings in my room - the lights are dim, and won't turn on even with good dream control (stubborn things, dreams are), and I'm upstairs. I walk downstairs, and my parents are there. My dad was in the garage once and I wanted to leave the house. He peeked out from behind the garage door. "Where are you going?! Get back in the house!" he said, in a stern voice. "Get lost dad, you're only a DC, and I'm the dreamer. Don't get any ideas." Then I left, not expecting a confrontation or for him to follow me. You could use this same method - apply your confidence and assert yourself as the more powerful person in the dream. Or, you can just joke and say something like, "come on... this is a DREAM, remember?" Then laugh it off, walking away. If your dream parents still don't want you to leave, add something like "I'll be back in a while."

Closing your eyes and willing, or imagining/visualizing, a new location can be a good method for some people, but it may also wake you up unless you maintain an awareness of what's around you. Don't forget about the dream, or your surroundings. My own method of teleporting just involves walking through a door, while visualizing the location on the other side. I might end up waiting a few moments to open the door, just to perfect the image in my head (it's easier if you're inside a building, so you can walk "out" into the location).
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

I don't think it's quite that extreme. I mean I do a reality check every time I wake up so I catch a lot of false awakenings. I bet the number is more like 85% of the time. I know you probably weren't being 100% serious. I'm just picky.

      To answer your questions...

      1. I've never had this issue. One time I actually beat the crap out of my parents because they tried to ground me in a dream -_-

So my only advice is to remember that your god. It's your dream. If Jesus himself walked in and told you not to leave you could take care of that.

      2. I've heard of it; but it's not the smartest thing to do. The reason why is because it's really common to wake up when you close your eyes in a lucid. So if you want to change the scenery try the "walk through doors" method. Just walk through the door with every intent to go to a different place. Think solely on whats on the other side of the door. Not what's in your current dream.

(yay for grammar and spelling problems!)

I'm guessing you don't simply go through the motion of a nose-plug RC, or a hand-count, though. Then again, the number's probably a bit high but it's best not to simply do RCs here and there!

Wait. Why is it bad to do RC's here and there? That's what I've been doing...randomly through the day I'll do RC's and ask myself why I think what's around me isn't a dream.

My first two lucid were because of RC's, just the RC's alone.

You should do them every time you wake up, go to bed, and in your life when something weird or extreme happens. Anything that causes rare emotion I'll do a RC, and it does help a lot in getting lucid especially if you are just starting like me. Use them a lot the day of, if you are doing a WILD or WBTB.

Oh, also I'll do them when I see something new that I haven't heard of before. Or a place that I just never noticed

RCs all by themselves, without thinking about if you're dreaming or not, won't have much effect other than reminding you how to do an RC. Asking yourself why you're not dreaming, along with an RC, is perfect!
