      A Seamless Unity of Consciousness

Random thought: what if by becoming lucid and meditating for one's entire life, one could train themselves to never lose consciousness.

Knowing what I know about spirituality, and just my own intuition, I think it may be possible. I wonder what would have to happen..

Hmm, shouldn't that be boring though? I mean, life is all about experiences. So meditating and being in a void, doing absolutely nothing all life, would really suck.

Who says it has to be a void? Maybe you can be fully conscious at all times, but still have a colorful personality as well as awesome dreams. Just speculating though.

I think he means just living in the moment, that's sort of like a void itself. Just being conscious of here and now, aware of what's happening...that's how i perceived it.

I don't know about "never losing consciousness".. but you should look up "dream yoga", and also.. some monks thought that sleeping at night was a waste of time and they just meditated all night. read it in that one "be here now" book. its a good read.

Sleep is absolutely necessary, from what I understand it. You can't go ten days without sleep, although, meditating may extend this time, or serve as a replacement for sleep. I, on the other hand, love sleeping. I'm just fine with it.

i'm not really into spirituality like I used to be. A lot of it is crap. But I believe that the meditative states that mystics talk about are reachable in some sense. One thing that I think is possible is to be in deep sleep but also be conscious at the same time. It seems like they are mutually exclusive, but I don't think so.

Wow! When you do a LD you are not losing consciousness. However there are always NREM periods, so, ya know, you can't always keep consciousness.

I'm sure though that if you can get yourself stuck in the hypnagogic state it will be a bit between waking and asleep and you can stay there indefinitely without the need to sleep.
