Lightbulb Lucid Dreaming being spoiled. (A Personal Goal to not)

Hello DV, I have been here for awhile and have a few lucid dreams under my belt. What I have been seeing is that LD techniques are becoming more and more dependent on technology; such as CAN-WILD and setting an alarm for WBTB.

The reason I think this is because, there are people who are able to have a LD any day they want, and do whatever they want, and that was awhile back when we did not have any technology.
Since lucid dreaming has been a skill practiced for hundreds of years, do you believe all of us are still able to learn without the aid of technology; therefore not becoming dependent on it? Or do you think technology is just advancements that need to be used in the future of LD?

My personal goal is to try not to use the aid of technology (maybe an alarm here and there) but to learn to LD without being dependent on technology.

      Thoughts and opinions?

      Hi there my friend,
I don't really use technology in DILDing and WILDing. But I admit that I use my phone as an alarm to WBTB(it's like, the inevitable ). When I'm too lazy to set up the alarm, I just use autosuggestion so I think that's enough to counter my dependency on technology. I think you'll just go on fine without the assistance of technology.

I don't use anything, not even an alarm. To be fair though, I started much earlier than most people here. And no, my LD count isn't a joke, its for real.
My fav method is DILD -> RC

Technology is there to help us. There is no harm on using it and I think people aren't inferior if they use devices or something of that kind to get lucid dreams.
In personal opinion though, I value oneironauts that do it the normal way. Call me paranoid, but I think it's such a personal and secret and transcendent event, I'd rather find the way to the "light" by my own That's why I don't like pills or anything, the sense of accomplishment is far greater when you worked your mind for ages trying to reach lucidity.

edit: remember that devices like novadreamer are still dependent in your lucid dream skills. So when lucid dreaming becomes more and more known (and acepted) to the public, imagine how good you will feel if you can have frequent lucids without any kind of aid !

@weakamon: that is true for methods like this, anyway you can't use an alarm for a wbtb or wild??

@hukif: that is amazing! And you only use DILD? How often do u have a LD?

@Zoth00: that is true, i think I just want to have the ability to have s LD on demand without the aid of anything.

But how does one even perform a WILD without the use of an alarm?

It's possible, quite easy in fact, to learn to wake at certain times without using an alarm. I think one of the coolest things about lucid dreaming is the fact that you don't need anything at all to do it, I can't think of many things for which this is the case. It's slightly comforting to know that if you ever find yourself incarcerated or stranded somewhere that it's a form of mental escape available to us.

I don't think there's anything wrong with using technology to help with lucid dreaming, but as zoth00 said, for now no matter what technology one uses effort and knowledge is still required.

It's easy - and you've probably done it before.

For example, if I have to wake up at a certain time for something really important - a big appointment or court date or something that I absolutely don't want to miss - I'll always wake up a few minutes before my alarm goes off.

Your mind has its own internal clock and can wake you whenever you want. You just have to tell it when (set your internal alarm as it were).

When you're going to sleep just repeat a mantra to yourself saying "I will wake up at ________". Do this over and over and visualize yourself waking up without an alarm at that time. It's called setting your intent. Once your intent has been properly set you'll find that you wake up right when you wanted to.

For me I don't use it to wake at a certain time, but to wake myself during a dream. Just say "I will wake during my dreams" and imagine yourself waking up with a dream fresh in your mind.

It is extremely helpful though to have a decent sleep schedule - go to bed at the same time and wake up at the same time each day. Then set your intent to wake after maybe 6 hours from a dream. It can also help if you write your intent in your DJ - I do this before sleep when I really want to try something new. I set my intent this way once to wake from my dreams and remember them and it worked for many months afterwards.

@Darkmatters: Ok thanks, i will try this later.

So, my goal is to master LD in about 6months- a year.... which i think is reasonable. After i started attempting to LD, back in April, it took about 1.5 weeks to have my first lucid (which was 3min long, in which i flew, change dream scene, all while keeping it stable)...a week after that i had another! That one was 15 MINUTES LONG!!! I flew, ate food, at sex, and talked to people. but I kinda lost my effort after that...

I then again started 3weeks before school, in which i remembered up too 2 full length dreams a night plus fragments, then school started and all was lost ;_;... I am now starting again and hope to master it this time, and not give up. I feel without using any help, it will be a huge reward on my part :3

Well, last night it was somewhere around 6, think that the stats say 4/day, will have to journal first to count tough. And yeah only DILD, but as I said on my post, started practicing much earlier than most at age 5, got my first induced when I was 13 and also learned what was the best method for me at the time.

I think everyone should learn to lucid dream without any aids. It is an amazing feeling of accomplishment, becoming the master of your own mind. That said, I like that technology has made it more accessible to more people.

There is a huge range of experience possible in dreams. It is not just dreaming/ lucid. These new technologies, supplements, and drugs give us new ways to explore the possibilities of the dream state.

As I said to someone else, not that impressive, there are people who can do better than me. One day though, I will get to their level!

I'm with you on this, I have the Lucid Dreaming app for android, but am very reluctant to use it. I'd probably only use it if I have a dry spell or something. I'd rather do it on my own and train myself to be able to do it at will.
