Sleep paralysis. Everyone experiences this in some form or another. It's 100% safe, completely normal, nothing can hurt you. Next time just remind yourself its a hallucination, it doesnt exist so there is notthing to be afraid of. |

Just before I fall asleep I feel an energy come over me I can't move or talk but I can open my eyes my body feels heavy, it makes me scared, I can see everything around me as if I were awake but I can't be because it's almost like a hollucination example last night I was trying to fall asleep all of a sudden I feel the paralysing energy come over me I start to panic i look over to try to pick up the remote and at the end of my bed there was a man sitting playing a wooden recorder he was infront of my tv so I could only see his shadow I was obviously scared my eyes felt so heavy I managed to get the remote and then the energy lifted I was awake fully again and he wasn't there. Alot of things have happened like this but the man with the wooden recorder was strange it happens so much I am scared to sleep almost after this happens once or twice before I sleep,I sleep normally and have normal dreams |

That is unmistakeably sleep paralysis. Everyone goes through it every night once they fall unconscious into sleep; if it happens while you're still conscious, that just means your sleep cycle had a bit of a hiccup, is all. Try to keep a consistent sleep schedule, and don't be overly tired during the day. Everything you experience while in sleep paralysis (SP) is a hallucination, as Shadow said, so don't worry if it feels like your heart is beating really fast or whatnot. You could always try a WILD (wake induced lucid dream) if you're feeling up to it. |

We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

This is a textbook description of sleep paralysis. It can be a frightening experience, but it is not dangerous. Your body is paralyzed during REM sleep so your don't move around and act out your dreams. If you become conscious, you can feel the paralysis. The accompanying hallucinations are always similar to what you describe. |

Thank you all, I feel much better in knowing the answer A question no one could answer for 12 years thank you. As for lucid dreaming I can do that whenever I choose this is how I help attain my goals in life example I want a man in my life if I lucid dream exactly who and what I want 99 percent of the time i meet him within the week it's quite interesting, my own business is thriving because of my ability to be and do whatever I like in my dreams this transcends into waking life very interesting. |

Congrats on your business succeeding in this tuff economic times. I had the exact same experience when i was on holiday in Zante and also had to ask here what it was. It was very scary.. i thought i was dieing haha, it's the fear of the unknown that's the scariest thing. |

Sleep Paralysis. The first time I slipped into it, jesus christ it was horrifying. And still is =). The auditory/visual hallucinations kill me. Voices. Shadows. The works. Though I always keep in mind that it is fake and nothing can hurt me. Good luck. Keep calm, and concentrate on your breathing. |

It is extremely scary I thought for ages I was going insane i recently went to a doctor and she tried to push me onto anti depressents, the same questions get asked "what drugs have you been taking" or as family members say " lay off the acid" haha. No I'm not a drug user just your average woman struggeling to sleep. I'm relieved to know the answer I googled sleep paralysis and it makes sense. Here I was thinking it was some kind of spirit taking over my body phew! |

Blimey, I thought a doctor would have known what sleep paralysis is. I hope you inform your doctor Niccolini. A friend of mine would wake up after a nights sleep in sleep paralysis whilst in prison. He thought it was a punishment from God to warn him not to do anything naughty in the future! |

The doctors I've spoken to about sleep paralysis never knew what it was, either. It's really quite disappointing when you think about it; from what I've seen, sleep doesn't seem to be given that much of a part in medicine. People think dreams are pointless, and anyone experiencing sleeping problems like narcolepsy or constant sleep paralysis are just "fixed" with a pill or antidepressants, without the doctor knowing what it is. And the person might never find out what is happening to them either... Imagine if doctors one day would say, along with giving medication, "try lucid dreaming using WILD if you're getting constant SP". |
