Thumbs up I would like to start lucid dreaming.

Hello, everyone. I am new here (call me Logan) and I would like to start lucid dreaming. I have never tried this before, but I believe I have encountered very mild forms of lucid dreaming (not MILD). I read some on here, and apparently the MILD method is best for beginners and can be very powerful once mastered. Help me clear things up please. So I just go to my room, and sit on my bed in the dark and don't worry about a thing and think of being in a lucid dream for 5 minutes, then lay down and repeat that I am in a lucid dream? That's what I got from a very helpful post by someone else. I do have some questions and concerns, too.

      1. Should I be scared to lucid dream? I do have a paranoia of demons, and I read in places that if I think of demons in the lucid dream, they will torment me. Now, my mind is compelled to think of demons in a lucid dream to test boundaries.

      2. If I get very scared, how do I wake up? I have also read that people have woken up, yet still in the dream. Then woken up again. And again. Like inception.

      3. Is it possibly that I will get this on the first try? I really hope to. This sounds amazing and is exactly what I need to get away from the ordinary life.

      4. This may sound a bit inappropriate, but can I have sex in the lucid dreams? I am a 16 year old male, and that would be rather awesome.

      5. Can I dream about ANYTHING? There have to be some limitations. This sounds too good to be true.

      6. I read somewhere that in order to lucid dream, you must trick your mind into thinking your body is asleep, so it shuts off all functions (such as moving) and you enter a dream, while you're still awake. Does this sound accurate?

Thanks to anyone who replies and anyone who can answer these questions for me! I will be on here regularly to get to lucid dreaming! Thanks in advance.

      Yes to everything.

You can wake up by being a boss, and you can also enter a lucid dream simply by becoming aware that you are in a dream during the dreaming phase. This awareness sparks your lucidity. The method you are referring to is WILD, which is a very popular technique among rookies and veterans alike.

      1. Don't be afraid. Be fearless! It's all in your head! In fact, nothing scary can happen to you at all unless you're ALREADY afraid.

      2. Yes, this happens, they are called false awakenings, where you dream that you wake up. Anywho, waking up for real is mainly a problem because it happens too much. If anything shocks you too bad, trust me, that will wake you up.

      3. On the first try, huh? Totally! As long as you keep a positive mindset, anything can happen! But if it doesn't, don't be too discouraged, just keep at it. MILD works for pretty much everyone eventually.

      4. Oh yes. Yes you can. If you're a virgin, you might be working off educated guesses though.

      5. Limitations? HA! We don't know the meaning of such words 'round these parts! If you can imagine it, you can dream it.

      6. That is a very specific technique for lucid dreaming, it's called WILD, Wake Initiated Lucid Dream. It involves going from being awake, to a dream with no lapse in consciousness. It's tough to master, but rewarding. Check the tutorial in the DV Wiki for more info.

There, that's my knowledge. Hope I could be of some help.

Thanks for the lengthy reply dude! Yeah, I am going to try to lucid dream tonight. Wish me luck! Does my version of the MILD method look okay? Are there any things I need to look out for?

Yeah, you pretty much got it, look to Naiya's excellent tutorial for some more complete information
I've had great success with MILD in the past, a lucid dream every night for a full week!

Hello Logan, and welcome to Dream Views. It really sounds like you have your head in the right place with what you need to do. Your plan with MILD sounds pretty good to me, and I think it's worth a try.

      1. Mostly no. The thing with dreaming of demons isn't really related to lucid dreaming. Lucid dreaming could actually help you to get past this fear. The only thing that can be scary about lucid dreaming I know of is sleep paralysis. Only WILD uses sleep paralysis, so it's not really anything to worry about.

      2. There are a few different ways to wake up. One of the most common ways is to close your eyes for a few seconds and say that you will wake up. It is possible that you can "wake up" and still be in a dream. This is called a false awakening. It's not really something to be afraid of though. As another note, half of the things in Inception aren't true.

      3. Possible, but not very likely. People learn to lucid dream at different rates. Some people can achieve their first lucid dream in less than a week, but it can take a lot of time for others. Try to stay possitive and motivated. If you aren't, then it may take longer than it should.

      4. Yes, you can have sex in lucid dreams. For lucid dreaming goals, it's probably a close second to learning to fly. Their are a few problems with it though.

      5. Well what you dream of is only limited by your imagination. There really isn't any limitation I have thought of. The human mind is a powerful thing.

      6. That is called a WILD (Wake Initiated Lucid Dream). It is done as you described, and when you're body shuts off, you go into sleep paralysis.

There's no reason for you to be scared of lucid dreaming. All of the demons, ghosts, etc are just the product of your imagination. And even if you experience them, im sure you'll be able to get used to it after some time.

      2. If I get very scared, how do I wake up? I have also read that people have woken up, yet still in the dream. Then woken up again. And again. Like inception.
There are a lot of ways to wake up yourself. Sometimes, all you need is your imagination. Get a gun, and shoot yourself Or how about jump off a cliff, etc. But the easiest way is to not wake up. Come on, it's a lucid dream. There's no reason for you to wake up. Just enjoy the moment, cause sooner or later, your body will eventually wake itself.

      3. Is it possibly that I will get this on the first try? I really hope to. This sounds amazing and is exactly what I need to get away from the ordinary life.
Everything is possible. As long as you believe in yourself. But sometimes, it's not always like that. You'll need determination and motivation. Just keep on trying until you achieve your wildest dreams.

      4. This may sound a bit inappropriate, but can I have sex in the lucid dreams? I am a 16 year old male, and that would be rather awesome.
      YES

      5. Can I dream about ANYTHING? There have to be some limitations. This sounds too good to be true.
Nothing is impossible inside a dream.

      6. I read somewhere that in order to lucid dream, you must trick your mind into thinking your body is asleep, so it shuts off all functions (such as moving) and you enter a dream, while you're still awake. Does this sound accurate?
It's called WILD. But I suggest you just continue on MILD because WILD is really hard to perform.

      Hope this helps

Telling yourself before sleep that you are dreaming is called mantra. It's just one part of the MILD method. But basically, yes.

      1. Should I be scared to lucid dream?
If you practice method called MILD, there is no scary stuff involved while falling asleep. You can experience some weird sensations and hallucinations when doing method WILD. In a Lucid dream itself - you may encounter some not so pleasant things, but so can you in a regular dream. Only this time you will be in control. Some lucid book authors recommend getting rid of scary creatures by sending them love and understanding.

      2. If I get very scared, how do I wake up? I have also read that people have woken up, yet still in the dream.
If you think you have woken up, but a reality check tells you otherwise, that's false awakening. Many take it as another chance to lucid dream.
I usually wake up by thinking of my sleeping body. But I'm yet to be in a situation, where I want to wake up.

      3. Is it possibly that I will get this on the first try?
Absolutelly possible. Depends on how much enthusiasm you have, how much you are happy about this incredible possibility. Later on, it will rely mostly on practicing the technique. I got my first one after less than half a day of looking at my hands in disbelief and asking myself, if I'm dreaming. I answered 'no' and said 'next time I'm dreaming, I look at my hands and realize I'm dreaming'

      4. This may sound a bit inappropriate, but can I have sex in the lucid dreams? I am a 16 year old male, and that would be rather awesome.
I'm not 16 and I'm not a male. And the answer still is 'rather awesome'. It's common knowledge that having lucid sx wakes you up, but I wonder, If I had woken up too soon, have I not read that so many times. So just don't think of waking up too soon as a done deal.

      5. Can I dream about ANYTHING? There have to be some limitations. This sounds too good to be true.
This is probably the only thing that sounds too good to be true and it acctually is true.

      6. I read somewhere that in order to lucid dream, you must trick your mind into thinking your body is asleep, so it shuts off all functions (such as moving) and you enter a dream, while you're still awake. Does this sound accurate?
This is a WILD method. In WILD, as you falling asleep, by not moving, you trick your body into thinking you are asleep and your mind starts dreaming. And since you are awake, you are aware of the whole process. You can even visualize what dream you want to have, or pick one of the 'ready made' dreams presented to you courtesy of you dreaming mind.
In MILD method, dreams are called DILDs and you go to bed normally, have a regular dream and in the dream you realize, you are dreaming. That realization is an incredible feeling that can not be duplicated by anything else.
I can tell you have great attitude about this and I'm positive, you'll lucid dream very soon, if not tonight. Happy dreams
