When did you start lucid dreaming?

Hi, I have only now stumbled to this forum but read around and was wondering when was your first lucid dream? My first lucid dreams started at the age of 7 when I was having nightmares every night. The only solution I saw was to train myself to recognize when I was in a dream and control it. What I did every night back then was tell myself to remember to say it's a dream while dreaming. Of course it took quite some time but at some point as weird as it sounds I was able to "conjure" an assistant which would help me in the dream. I soon learned to fly and to wake up whenever I wanted. I have started to read up on this whole concept when I was about 18 and somewhat lost the ability to control the dreams to that extent because they became more rare.

I have always thought that when you die in a dream you would die, but I read last year that it is a misconception and was actually trying to let myself die in a nightmare for a while now with no success; always wake up...

So when did you first start lucid dreaming?

I started trying at the beginning of September, and had my first lucid at the end of September. Since then, I've had 6 more of low quality. But, I am slowly improving.

About the same as you, around 6-7ish, because of nightmares.

Cool; I didn't know others had the same situation as me when they were young, I tried explaining it to some at a younger age but they would just question if I wasn't making it up or thought it wasn't normal.

My first LD was when i was 8 to combat my recurring nightmares. I could catch them every single time i had one (which was a couple times a week) and could wake my self from them until they stopped when i was about 10. I read up about LDing in late april and then I joined here and have been improving ever since

I first started practicing it three years ago when I joined this site. When I was younger, though, I'd have the occasional lucid without knowing what it was.

My little brother is this way. He didn't know what Lucid dreaming was till recently and this is how he dreams. I think it's just a heightend awareness.

I was probably around 8 or 9. I realized I was dreaming a couple times, and I tried to fly both times. However, I wasn't really very lucid. One time I locked myself in the bathroom, turned off the lights and tried. Needless to say, I failed, but it was still a cool experience. When I was older, I was browsing through some random college psychology textbook, and it briefly mentioned lucid dreaming, so I knew that was what I had done. Last year, I was looking through that again, and I decided to Google it since I wanted to try it again. And I found this site.

I really suggest anybody wanting to experience what i do in my dreams look up Astral Projection it's a little different and requires meditation but you wouldn't believe the places i was able to go to when i was able to achieve it. Keep in mind since i dream so lucidly every night i don't really try to meditate and Astral Project but even when i tried out Astral Projection i was still having incredibly lucid and vivid dreams.

About 5 years ago it happened accidentally and was one of the best, most vivid LD's I've ever had!

I have always suffered from sleep paralysis and crazy hypnagogic hallucinations. I didn't make the connection to lucid dreaming until I was about 12 or 13, after exploring astral projection. It all sort of "clicked" in the beginning of high school.

I've been lucid dreaming since I was around 8, and like many others, perfectly timed with the original release of A Nightmare On Elm Street. Freddy was pretty much making almost pee the bed every night. Finally took care of him when my mom's "voice" kept telling me it wasn't real and it grew from there. I don't know much about these "levels" that people are talking about, but from my 25 years of experience, when I'm in top mode I can fully mainupulate anything and everything in the dream.

But those that have been doing it a long time know that it can get stronger and weaker throughout the dream. There are some parts that are easily manipulated like wiping away clouds or calming a giant tidal wave. Other's are harder like creating a door that leads you to God on the other side. I haven't managed that one yet haha. It takes a lot of practice and my "brain" actually got smarter as I got smarter about dealing with the dreams. If a mountain lion got my arm, next time I'd fly away, then I had have the same dream I'd fly away, the lion would grow wings. Damnest thing about lucid dreaming...you get better, but so does the "scenario creating" part.

Well... I actually read naps are a good way for lucid dreams because you remember your dreams more if you wake up during or right after one. Which is alot more likely if it is a short nap. I am very close to getting more lucids now though. I can remember 2-3 dreams a night. But every time I wake up I cant remember any dream but if I think for a few minutes I suddenly remember them and almost in a way experience them all over again. And in almost every one I'm getting suspicious that it's a dream and I do a reality check. The reality checks work like my thumb will go through my pals and I can breath if I plug my nose but I cant seems to make a connection most of the time. But recently (and I said this before) I started doing simple math with every reality check to get the logical part of my brain working and since I had to ld's in two nights. I started that right about when i joined here. The ld's were short and hard to remember but I knew I was dreaming was the main thing. Oh and an intresting fact after my second ld I lost lucidity and jumped to another dream where I thought I was awake and was pumped tha I jsut had a ld and I did like 20 consecutive backflips because I was pumped. Eventually someone got annoyed and tazed me. Then I woke up.

I began as soon as I learned about it, in August of '05. My motivation brought me very successful results by the middle of that week.

When I was very young (not sure how old exactly), my mother would tell me how she could make wings and fly away if she needed to escape something in a dream.
This always inspired me and though I could never grow wings [and I don't think I ever have since] I could become lucid and take advantage of situations however I needed to.

My first ability was to wake up, I'd get down on my knee's and smash my face into the ground. 3 times usually did the trick.
Then after confirming it was a dream, I could [usually] re-enter the dream prepared & fearless.
