can you get into REM sleep without getting lots of sleep???

everyone here knows about REM sleep, and the 4 stages of sleep that follow, right? well anyway my highschool starts at 7:30 but i usually wake up around 5:45(dont ask why). Well lets say if i get to bed at 11pm. i will not get into any vivid dreaming at all, it blows, you have to get around 8 hrs of sleep to get into REM, but for me its longer than 8 hrs because i can get that much sleep and still not get to the point where im like "Wow this looks like its real or realer than the wakingl life!" But i never vivid dream during the week at all stupid waking up early. but i havnt really got into REM sleep for a long time, which is bad. But if i get to bed around 10:30 my mind will make up for the lost hours of sleep and i will get into vivid dreaming but not REM. and since its not vivid dreaming i cant lucid dream , but when i do get lots of sleep i do lucid dream. any suggestions anyone? or should this have gone under sensless banter??? im serios too.

      D&C section 88 verse 124

Cease to be idle; cease to be unclean; cease to find fault with one another; cease to sleep longer than is needed; retire to thy bed early, that ye may not be weary; arise early, that your bodies and your minds may be invigorated.

I have no idea what you just said Demosthenes, but I cant sympathize with you Neo. I go to bed around 11:30-12:30 and sometimes 1:00 AM only because of me taking forever to go to sleep and the endless noise my brother makes. And then I wake up around 5:30 now for school.

Just came back from throwing water at a damn racoon for eating my garbage in the freezing cold. Saw it run home scared. The lil bastard can eat my garbage all he wants, but when he starts making a mess, then I dont think so buddy. Back off and eat my neighbors garbage

The same goes for me. Weekends are the only source of vivid dreaming and/or lucid dreaming. I look forward to sleeping more than ever; last night I went to bed at about 10:30pm, and woke up at only 11am... School has ruined me.

What that means is that it is healthy to go to bed as early as possible so you can get lot's of REM sleep. For example, the reason you dream when you nap in the afternoon for a short time is because when you take a nap later in the day your body goes into REM much faster for some reason. So the more early you go to bed, the faster you get into REM, which means more REM when you sleep at night, which means more Lucid Dreaming.

So basicly what I'm saying is you should try to go to bed early.

Thanks for clearing that up. I would go to sleep earlier, but I dunno. I try, but my family don't go to bed till 11 and I wouldn't be able to concentrate probably with all the noise. Besides for some reason I hate going to bed early. Probably a latino thing

Lets say you only have 6 hours of sleep, you will only have a couple SHORT 'bursts' of REM, and if you sleep only 2 hours more, to get 8 hours of sleep, you will have TWO TIMES THE AMOUT of REM time by just sleeping 2 hours more, so you could imagine what 10 or 12 hours would do!
      SLEEP WELL, DREAM WELL.

Damn.. you all took the words right out of my mouth.. I TOO have problems due to school.. though I have raised my recall to get a decently vivid dream each night I still cant get even close to lucid due to the lack of time.... And going to bed eirly is almost impossible with my scedule... *SIGH* If only there was an easy solution!! Weekends are the only real time to experiment.. ARGH

I usually sleep for 4 to 6 hours, but lately I have been sleeping longer because I have a break (from school where I teach. Unlike most of you guys). I nap in the afternoon for an hour or two, I almost always have a dream or two a night and while I nap (nothing lucid yet. That's what ticks me off. I get lots of dreams, and yet no lucidity). I should mention that I am a light sleeper, and that it takes me a while to fall asleep (add to that the fact that I talk myself into having a lucid dream. That makes me stay awake longer at night).

So I am not sure about the REM thing, and when it happens.

      moe.

      REM is different for everyone

well REM can be different for everyone, although there are some general periods of time of how often they occur. im not sure at the moment how many REM stages i have because i havnt slept lots in forever!! but i think last nite i had around 3...
