Dream Characters tried to stop me from being lucid

Today I had one of my first proper lucid dreams. The previous 2 or 3 lasted only a few seconds as I'd get too excited and wake up. However, I am finally getting the hang of it, so I managed to have a full lengthed Lucid Dream.

The dream was unusually normal; I hardly ever have "normal" dreams, they are mostly surreal in nature. I was in my house, with all my family members. The dream revolved around me being suspicious about it being a dream, and my parents and my brother trying to stop me. They would insist that I wasn't dreaming, but I kept convincing myself I was.
They even resorted to trying to get me into a nightmare: my mom said "You DO know what happens when you realize you're lucid dreaming, right?", and while she said it everything went black and white, started distorting and melting and being sucked into a vortex for an instant. This battle went on for ages, with me asking questions continually, when finally I had the intuition of looking at my hands. One of them had 6 fingers, so I definitely knew I was dreaming then. At that point, they seemed to have accepted it.
Also, the fact that the dream was extremely realistic almost got me un-lucid.

Any thoughts on this experience? I wasn't even expecting them to act like this, so I doubt it's due to my expectations. Did anyone have similar things happen?

From my experience "knowing" that your dreaming seems to go against what your your brain what's you to know. Your " supposed " to think your in the real world. Hence why we usually think we are in the real world when we are in a dream. Since DC's are collectively your subconscious, naturally they will try to prevent you from being lucid.
      I'm always happy.

When I first started lucid dreaming my DC family members would always refuse to believe that I was dreaming. Just ignore them and do something fun because it can be frustrating and distracting.

The thing is it didn't occur to me to actually do anything like flying and such. Tt was rather annoying, but maybe now I'm more prepared.

Does anyone have any advice on how to effectively say "screw it" and do what you want? For example, as I exited the house, I pondered taking the car, but decided I better not.

Also, to anyone reading, were your lucid dreams like this at the beginning?

Hm, I don't seem to have this problem. When I am dreaming, and realize it, there's nothing to convince me otherwise. Dreaming, and realizing you're dreaming, is a high like no other. There's a certain physical feeling and a sort of haze to everything that lets me know I AM DEFINITELY dreaming. Not to mention, for some reason, if I say to a DC, "I'm dreaming right now!" They'll just grow a big smile on their face and say "I know." Maybe I'm different than most. From now on instead of asking if it's a dream, TELL them it is a dream.

      yeah.. mine as well..
One time when one of them "screwed up" and actually confirmed that I was dreaming, I asked her "Wait..well that means this is a dream?"
She rolled her eyes and was like "... nooO..?" That was odd.

Keep a note by your bed which you read every evening before you go to sleep. This is to remind you what you want to do. It's a waste of effort having to really stand and think about what you want to do next in a dream. So I think it's better really knowing what you want to do before you enter one.

.mh, yeah. And if we were actually dream characters to someone else in the real world.
The real world was our DC's dream, and our dreams are the DC's real world.

But when our DC's are lucid dreamers, then they would be given superpowers.. And the ability to completely mess up our world in one day (night for them).

Like a mirror dimension trough dreams..

Yeah. If, when they slept, they dreamed themselves into our world. As we sleep and dream ourselves into their world.
And what If all the bad-guys dreamed their way to the real world. And the good guys to try and fix the damage. Same with us, destroying their world in revenge. That could have evolved into a horrible, horrible war..

Not to imply that DCs will ALWAYS do this. The brain is a exceptionally strange thing. Sometimes DCs may confirm or sometimes even tell you your dreaming. But I believe for the most part they will attempt to prevent lucidity.

My problem is my dreams are all typically normal to a point where it's hard to notice odd things. Mostly dream characters are more odd than what exactly is going on. That's what I get for being a vulcan and thinking too logically. lmao

On a side note I have heard stories (and I believe Robert Waggoner in Lucid Dreaming; Guide to the inner self) where people have asked dream characters to remind them when they start to forget, that they are dreaming. Also one girl I had been talking to said that she has a dream character that reminds her that shes dreaming every time shes asleep. Apparently the character is one of her dream signs and she just asked her one time if she could do that and she did.

So my most common dream character is my fiancee, I wonder if I could ask her in the waking life to ask me if i'm dreaming every 30 minutes or something and it would reflect in my dreams?

Also have ya'll heard about dream characters actively reminding you that you were dreaming?

I've actually stopped myself from telling my mother that I was dreaming because I thought she would overreact if I claimed she wasn't real.
Maybe its a projection on how they feel about you lucid dreaming if they are against it?

I would love it if some of my dream characters came into reality or I could PHYSICALLY go into the dream world. What would happen if dream characters crossed into reality?

My GF is also in alot of my dreams as a DC.
I went round her house the one morning last week to see if she had a shared dream with me that previous night/ early morning. Nope.

I have told her about LD, but I don't think she shares the same enthusiasm or level of interest in dreaming as me which is a pity.
Sister and brothers also know as well.

Dream characters crossing into reality is impossible (i'll have to dwell on this thought for a bit if I am to think otherwise) due to the fact that they are created by our minds.

While phyiscally going into a dreamstate is nearly possible and can be known as Astral Projection where you have an OBE and enter a physical dimension where you can even interact with others who are currently in projection. I once 'flew' to the iffle tower in france with a friend while preforming astral projection, but OBE's aren't for me.

One a side note phyiscally you can, in a way, be in a dream being that your brain takes physcial actions in a dream as if you were awake. My next lucid goal is to sit on the empire state building, cross legged, rolling my totem on my knuckles and trying to depen my lucid state.

You would probably enjoy my current theory that a form of Inception is really possible...

It is good to find a partner with similar interests like that who is willing to help you.
