Dream within the dream, and anchoring yourself to reality.

To all you members out there who regularly experience lucid dreams, how often do you ask yourself questions like "Where am sleeping right now?" or "What date is it?" while you are lucid?

Because up until a week ago I thought the idea of a dream within a dream (as presented in "Inception") was rather far-fetched. Although I still believe the way they associated dream "levels" with deeper mind states is inaccurate, I do think that it's possible to anchor yourself to one dream and submerge into another one, using the former as a mainstay.

What I experienced last week was, I was in an elevator in our apartment building, and as elevators tend to do in dreams for me, it started acting uncannily. I realized I was dreaming, gained control of it, and started exploring the environment, but the amazing thing was that I had fooled myself into thinking I was sleeping in my own bedroom and that sustained my lucidity, while I was actually in a house near the seaside (I was on a trip with some friends). So essentially, what I experienced was a lucid dream, with a non-lucid one.

Have similar things happened to any of you guys? I'm thinking maybe we should make it a common practice to try and establish our real whereabouts as soon as we become lucid.

I've asked myself where I fell asleep once, when I was in a false awakening. But I ended up destabilizing the dream because I ended up thinking about my real body. I've never asked myself the date before.

As for inception-style dreaming, I'm sure it's only possible to be within one dream at a time... If you fall asleep in a dream, you'll either wake up or enter a new dream, completely seperate from the last one. I've attempted WILD before in a dream, without being lucid, and then entered a new dream in which I was lucid. But that's not a dream within a dream, that's more of a "one-after-the-other" scenario.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

Well, yes, from a technical point of view it is just two separate dreams, rather than one being within the other, but it was an interesting notion.

Ive had dreams inside another dream for 2 times so far.
So I was at my dad's place (parents divorced) and I was just laying my hair nicely, and I suddenly wake up, at my mom's place, but I didnt know it was still a dream, my cousin was also next to me cause we were trying to get lucid dreams. So we went back to sleep, and suddenly I find myself in a dream where Im with my classmates on a schooltrip, I make some flips there and the gravity tells me that its a dream, so I became a bit lucid. But I soon woke up, back in the other dream, and told my cousin that I had a lucid dream. We went back to sleep but I soon woke up because there was a horse standing next to my bed. I told my cousin I'd take care of it so he could sleep. So I go outside but then the horse is actually a goat with 1 horn. nonetheless I move on and see my uncle across the street doing some farming business taking care of chickens telling me nothing in life is free. I sit at a fence and soon my cousin comes along with some bread, butter and bacon. Instead of taking bread, I just take butter, put bacon on it and add some more butter and eat it like that. and THEN I actually woke up in real life. Was kinda weird
