      Is this common?

For every single one of my lucid dreams, I only remember a few moments before actually becoming lucid. I practice reality checks during the day, but when I become lucid, I seem to do my reality check for no reason. I'll just put my hand to my nose and breathe. I'll go "woah I'm dreaming"

I've never had a moment when I go: wow this isnt right, I must be dreaming.

My reality checks just happen. No reason at all

Is this normal, is this a good or bad thing?

I'd say it's a good thing, honestly. With how our minds just loves to challenge us through false awakenings etc., and that the subconscious usually takes control when we're unconscious, that's a good thing.

I guess you could say you're lucky that doing reality checks during the day transcends during your dreams. I honestly think that having those moments of sporadic reality checking is better than trying to DILD.

I don't know if you do this, but do you ask yourself questions if you're dreaming when doing RCs in waking life? If you really want a moment where you just have a "!!!!" moment, try questioning your reality, but don't try to answer it too much, and just do an RC after questioning and really test yourself.

If the RC comes randomly, maybe if you apply the habit of RCing after seeing something weird in waking life (or just conditioning yourself for how you would react to abnormal events), maybe it'll transcend to your dreams as well, and you'll become a pro at DILDs.

If you mean that you have no control over which RC you do and when, and that you do it only after you become lucid, than I would say it's normal. That's how it is with me. But I was wondering about that myself - about the part not having control over which RC you do.

But doing RC after you become lucid is normal. I don't think anybody ever does RC in regular dream and that gets him lucid. The questioning your reality and realization and RC are happening so fast, that sometimes is hard to tell, which came first. I hope this is what you meant.

I'm like you I said it on another post but last night I did a random check then realized I was dreaming turned bags into dogs then ran into a closed window and woke up happy but not satisfied
Shoot me in the heart, I want to feel death take me.
