Since attempting LD, experiencing at least 2 times a night sleep paralysis. any dangers ?

      Hello,

FYI: Male 23, dutch, fairly experienced in "trippyness", mental control, and a natural lucid dreamer, now my story:

I "discovered" sleep paralysis last week. The technique of thinking about a dream-subject before falling asleep was the initiator of that, I kept my mind awake, when my body went into REM.

The first time sleep paralysis didn't scare me or induce alot of fear. But now I'm getting worries:

Every night I manage to go into SP, every time when I'm laying in my bed, I can induce SP voluntarily within <5 minutes, and often even faster. I'm currently doing this out of free will, because I find the hallucinations incredibly interesting. But am getting worries over the frequency, and easyness of SP. Are there any risks involved like permanently changing my sleeping habbits?, can I sleep in the future without SP?, or can I lose my sanity continuing with SP ?

Or is this just a sympton of sleep depriviation? (For the past year I lived with no more then 6 hours sleep daily)

      please advice

Hi there. What exactly do you experience during this period? It is critical to know so that you can say for certain if it was true SP or something else, such as REM atonia, or just sensations we get as the body is falling asleep. There has been a lot of misinformation going around regarding SP

I suggest checking this out: http://www.dreamviews.com/f157/sleep...lained-136925/

Also, I don't think you're gonna lose sanity by doing this. x)

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.

Hmm, in that thread: a bit to many people telling me what I should and shouldn't do, instead of describing symptons and causes.

But the first time, was true SP, because I realy couldn't move, experienced honest fear, and had the idea that some-1 was standing in the corner. here the full story: http://www.dreamviews.com/f11/my-fir...alysis-136973/

But the last couple of times have been "REM atonia" if this description more accuratly describes it for you.

For me it feels as the same thing, only difference would be the Fear then. When in "REM atonia" I can attempt to move, and imagine some lame-horror movies and the intense feeling of Fear is back. Never for long though :-(

So I think the only difference between SP and REM atonia would be being in control and aware of it, or not.

Well, some people do experience SP and REM atonia, and many do not. Yet, both groups do have lucid dreams the same way. We all get SP and atonia, but for majority of people it comes after we fall asleep, so we don't notice it at all. Some people do notice it. Sounds like you are one of them.

But either way, it makes no difference in relation to lucid dreaming. As any good tutorial will tell you (WILD by Sageous) - you don't pay attention to any distractions you experience while falling asleep during WILD attempt.

Immobilization, hallucinations, sensations - those are either there or not, it doesn't matter. You just soldier through them, knowing that none of it is real and none of it can hurt you. You just continue to your lucid dream.

And I don't believe it will cause you any harm. What is happening is, that SP comes little sooner for you and since you are keeping your mind awake, while your body falls asleep, you notice things, you don't notice on nights, when going to sleep normally, without WILDing. Hope this makes sence. Happy dreams

The only thing different from a normal night of sleeping is your awareness. You are entering REM (and therefore you have REM atonia) every night, whether you are aware of it or not. Paying attention to it won't make it happen more or less often. If it is bothering you, you can always stop. I would say, push forward. You are making huge breakthroughs in dreaming. There are so many possibilities just around the corner, so much to learn and experience. Don't be afraid. This is your body and your mind. Master that shit!
