      HELP-Lucid Dream Questions

I've learned techniques to lucid dream, and I really want to try it. But I'm nervous about two things:
1): I'm scared I'll have a lucid nightmare. What would I do then? Also, what are the chances of having a lucid nightmare compared to a normal lucid dream?
2):How do I wake up if I get scared?

3):Whenever I don't want to think about something, naturally, I think about it. What if I think about something scary, will it be in my dream, or is it only when I really want it to happen?

4): Where does it "start"? Do you start in your bed, or where?
Please help, I'm scared but really want to LD.

"The greatest barrier of success is the fear of failure" - "Courage isn't the absence of fear but rather the judgement that something is more important than the fear".

I don't have time to write a long post now, I can return and write one later if you like. (And I can answer each question one by one)

But really think about these quotes for now and what they mean.

And you should know that if you are lucid and can summon your biggest fear in a blink of an eye, then your control of the dream is incredible and should be praised!

Ok one short but harsh answer for now: A dream is yourself, your personality and if there are fears in your life then embrace the fears because the dream is the best place to get rid of them.

      1. Best thing is to face your fear. If a scary monster ich chasing you, don't run. Turn to him and ask him why is he chasing you. Tell him that you love him anyway. This will very likely turn him into something nonthreatening.

I would say chances of having a lucid nightmare are small. But it kindof depends on your mental state when you going to sleep. Aro you going to bed angry, with tons of worries on your mind, or happy and content? If you feel bad, switch your mood to excided and happy about your possible cool lucid dream.

I used to have a lot's of regular dream nightmares. Since I'm lucid dreaming, I have had lot less, and none of my 90 LDs were bad dreams. As soon as I realize I'm dreaming, I forget everything else and all I think about is how happy I'm in a lucid dream.

      2. You just think about your sleeping body and you should wake up immediatelly.

      3. Dreams are formed by our thoughts. My mind frequently wanders towards something bad as I'm falling asleep. That's when I tell to myself to stop being silly, get rid of the bad thought and I call up some beautifull place I have seen, fun that I have had with my friends, or some other happy occasion, untill I forget about the bad stuff.

      4. When you WILD, many of them start in your bed in your room. But DILDs are at random places.

Here is a link to another thread

Hope some of this helps. Just remember, many things in waking life are scary, but we do them anyway.

Thanks, guys. I think I'll try LD tonight. Just a couple more questions. First, how long does it seem like you are in the dream on average? Second, How hard is dream control? Say, I want to hit up wal-mart in my dream. How hard would it be to make it appear behind me? Say I want to kill some bad guys. If I believed it would happen, would it be that hard for my mind to generate them?

LD can be anywhere from few seconds to 20 min and more. I would say 5-10 min is a very good length.

If you want to have something appear, you don't try to make it appear. You don't believe, it will happen. You just know, that as you turn the corner, or turn around, it will be there. No questions about it.

You wanna have a shotgun, just reach back and take the one thats hanging on your back. You don't remember putting it there? No problem. It's there anyway. You wanna be invisible? Just take the invisibility pill out of your pocket. The moment you reach for it, it will be there.

You wanna have some bad guys to play with? Just think to yourself "Oh, look at all tose bad guys pouring out of the door." And get your gun ready, cos they are a commin. Have fun tonight

So if I think of something, it will appear? What if I accidently think of the ghost boy standing in the corner of my room? I know you said to tell it off, but that would still scare the heck out of me if I saw it. What should I do?

Don't fear it Love it I mean if you think about, there is not a single rational explanation to why you should fear it, except of the fear itself.

I had a lucid dream and saw a hooded man standing in a corner, it looked like death itself or something. Then I instead of being afraid, I got currious wondering what representation of me that being could be. So I walked torwards it and saw my friend Martin in the hoodie and at the time I didn't realized what it ment, but I do now.

So fears are often something that can help us understand ourself. So even think of the scary figures you see as your guides, because they truly can be.

Everything you see in the dream is a representation ot the self (subconscious, memories, and emotions) why be afraid of the self?

And yes even if you see slenderman or something that you at the time don't think can teach you something, well your wrong in fact your biggest fear can be your biggest and best lesson.

      "Know thyself"

If you are still afraid of things, I understand I am not very caring and loving for insects dreams or something like that either...
But realize that it can't hurt you and you are in control, if you not in control it is you yourself that makes it so, so be in control!

Or use the ridiculos method ^-^ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=doxxfXqpKYA

      Have fun, fears are fun!

Thanks, I now realize that it's just myself making up these things. Also, what technique is best where you can choose where you start at besides WILD? I've heard of people starting in a space void or something. Also, it wouldn't be very likely to have a lucid nightmare my first time, would it?

I start where the dream takes me which is in my mind. Voidness is good but it is easy to associate that with darkness and we all have a fear of the unknown generally, so because I know you don't want any fears to occur I wouldn't recommend that.

Something encouraging, I have never had a nightmare since I started lucid dreaming and if something scary does occur it doesn't affect me.

Bogarts and nightmares have one thing in common: They can't approach nor hurt a person that is in control of his fears

I have lots of nightmares in general. But they have not detracted from my desire for lucid dreams. I've had scary things show up in my lucid dreams and tried different tactics for dealing with them. Ignoring them works well enough, but facing them with courage works the best.
I've experienced becoming friends with the scary thing after I defeated it. It is quite a rewarding feeling.
You could also repeat to yourself while lucid and/or becoming lucid that nothing can hurt you in a dream and there is no reason to be scared.

Don't tell off the scary thing. Make friends. In my last LD, I was talking to a dream character, when his face started to morph into something bad. I quickly said to him "You are good and I like you". He stopped morphing.

Rather than think of something, you just know it's there. For example, I got lucid and remembered that I wanted to try to drink a lucid potion in my next LD. So as I'm flying down the road, I just said to myself "ok, I'll pick it up behind this corner". I didn't want it to appear. I didn't wish it to appear. I just simply went there, picked it up and had a drink.

Or, I wanted to write something in my DJ while in LD. So I said to myself "I'll turn around and write in my DJ". I turned around and there it was. So you should have same mentality, as you do in waking life. Let's say you are thirsty and you think to yourself "I'm going to kitchen to get me a drink of water". You don't wonder, if you find a cup, or if there will be a faucet. You just go and do.

Having a lucid nightmare is quite rare. Here is what I would do. Think of something fun to do in your lucid. Write it in your DJ. Draw a picture of it. Daydream about it. Then, when you are falling asleep, think about it and visualize it. Make up fun adventures. Keep these pictures in your mind's eye, untill you fall asleep.

I'm quite a scaredy cat myself and was worried, what if I have a bad lucid. But the funny thing is, as soon as I get lucid, all those thoughts become non-existent. As if I have never had them. I'm sure, you will be the same way. The shock of realizing you are lucid, and the extreme happiness you feel at that moment don't allow for any negative thoughts.

Visualizing as you falling asleep can help you have a NLD (non-lucid dream), or a lucid dream with that theme, or place you are visualizing. Either for WILD, DILD or DEILD.

If I may, I would recommend you start with DILD simply because it's easier to start with. Of course, you may choose any technique you wish.
