More People having lucid dreams that you might think,

ok, so I was just searching the web for lucid related articles and I came across this,
Saying 'Hi' Through A Dream: How The Internet Could Make Sleeping More Social - Forbes
And While the actual article does not talk about what I want to discuss, it features the facts that I want to talk about. In the 4th paragraph it says "10% of the population are active lucid dreamers, meaning they have at least one lucid dream a month" that's a huge amount of people! If this statistic is true that means there are 700,000,000 active lucid dreamers worldwide. But what confuses me is that if this is true, shouldn't there be much more people on dreamviews? Just a thought. It goes on to talk about Christopher Nolan a British-American film director who actually directed Inception. And according to this article lucid dreaming inspired this movie. And if you look in to this further there are loads of famous people/celebrities that lucid dream or have. Some include James Cameron, Nikola Tesla, Albert Einstein, Stephen King etc... The fact is there are tons of people that currently at least experience lucid dreams. So why isn't it kicking off? I mean it surprises me that there aren't more things to do with lucid dreaming is this day and age. It's what sort of inspired me to start a lucid awareness project. Anyway what do you guy think? Is this article telling the truth? Do you think lucid dreaming will ever globally kick off?

Well a lot of people are natural lucid dreamers, so they don't need to go onto a websites to get tips or new techniques, because they have perfected it over their lifetime. Plus a lot of people wouldn't have a lot of time because they would be doing more important things. These 2 combined probably gives you the most likely answer as to why not a lot of people go on forums such as this.

There's also the fact that many people don't believe in the idea, for whatever reason. Maybe it was Nolan's idea to create Inception to help spread the word of lucid dreaming. I reckon that in 50 years time, the majority of the population will lucid dream. I say this because the current younger generation is more geared towards finding new things to entertain people with, such as new technology. Also, when the concept has been around for a while, more people will be likely to accept and fully understand it, and want to do it.

Well, for one thing, many people may have about one lucid dream per month but it doesn't necessarily mean they know what lucid dreaming is. I was one of those people that just happened to lucid dream about once or twice a month, but for a long time I didn't even know it was called lucid dreaming. The only reason I found Dream Views was because I was interested in dreams in general so I looked up on the internet to see if there were other people who found dreams fascinating and had similar experiences to my own. Through searching stuff about dreams I discovered lucid dreaming and realized that it was what I was experiencing.

I do believe that the number of active lucid dreamers may be quite high and increasing, but 700 million sounds like bullshit to me.
And it was because of Inception that I first got into lucid dreaming actually, but I don't think that was Nolan's objective.

      Yeah,
I agree with you the most. If 700 million people were active lucid dreamers, there would be way more studies and just general coverage of the topic. Also your right it was not Nolan's objective to spread the word on lucid dreaming. It was a influence for the movie, because he practiced lucid dreaming when he was younger. Also the movies dream physics are quite messed up to, like limbo and a dream within a dream.
      Thanks for everyone's replies,

i'm willing to bet most people have or will have a lucid dream here or there. but i've found they just aren't that interested in pursuing further knowledge and exploration of lucid dreaming. i'd also say that having about 1 lucid dream per month doesn't exactly qualify you as an "active lucid dreamer".. you can't really say how controlled or stable that one dream may have been. also, i think one of the reasons it hasn't "kicked off" is because its not an exact practice.. something that may work for you tonight in order to induce a LD may not work tomorrow. whereas other skills will always work if you do it the same way every time - i find this to be a major roadblock for many people.
most people i talk to.. even if they have lucid or semi-lucid dreams. just aren't as interested in the whole thing as we are. and we can't force them to be. just put it out there and those that are drawn to it will pick it up and seek it out.

It's worth remembering that a lot of people experience sleep paralysis and false awakening in combination without knowing what's going on and this combination can be nothing less than absolutely terrifying.
My LDing record, if you want to hear about it, is about 4 WILDs, 1 DEILD, and the rest DILDs.
