      I don't like Lucid Dreaming...

Today I realized that my dreams actually torture me. I have been able to lucid dream for years. I didn't even realize there was a name for it until a few months ago. My problem with it is that I am so aware during my dreams that I sometimes become really sad. I can feel the emotions. I will have dreams about a person (mostly famous) and in my dreams we will be talking about the fact that I am dreaming and right around the time that I wake up we say our goodbyes and see you next time. I guess that's cool to some people because it's like you actually know this person and get use to seeing them in your dreams.

To me having dreams that involve so much of my emotions is bad. I dream about things and situations that I want in real life. Like having a baby. I can feel and smell everything. I am fully aware that I am dreaming and this happy feeling won't last. What I usually do during dreams that make me so happy that is saddens me knowing it's going to end, is stop them. I will change the dreams or runaway in my dream.

But when I wake up all the emotions are still there. Sometimes I will even lay in my bed crying not wanting to face reality. Not that my life is horrible but when my dreams are good there are great. And I love the way the happiness I feel. And I always lucid dream. I just want to escape my mind and silence it. I hate the fact that I'm thinking and dreaming. And being so logical in my dreams that I cause myself unhappiness.

Sorry for the long post but I was wondering if anyone else felt the same way. I feel like lucid dreaming is close to mental torture .

Your not going to find much people on Dreamviews who think lucid dreaming is mental torture, because this is a place where you go to learn it. I don't think you understand the pure potential of lucid dreaming, you say you feel emotions that you don't like, but it's only a dream and you shouldn't let things that happen in them get to you. And if you truly are lucid, confront your emotions because you are in control of the dream. Honestly I would absolutely love to get lucid every night, as vividly as you explain because the way I view lucid dreaming is different. Use it to have fun! Fly, learn stuff about yourself, talk to your subconious, eat delicious foods with out worrying about diets. Lucid dreaming is a perfect world, and you should cherish the ability to lucid dream every night. Just my thoughts on your situation though.

Actually I haven't found anyone online that has a problem with lucid dreaming. At times it can be fun because it is cool to fly and a lot of the other cool things I can do (I can control animals too). I understand why lucid dreaming would be fun but it is literally like my brain never stops thinking. I have crazy mental awareness while dreaming and it just seems really emotional. I like switching dreams when I'm having a nightmare. I like switching dreams because I already know the outcome and I've become bored. But when I switch dreams because I know that I'm so happy those emotions still are there. In my dream I am aware that I just switched dreams because it wasn't real and that I didn't want to experience the emotions because I knew I was going to wake up.

I don't know maybe I'm a nut but sometimes it's all just a little overwhelming. Maybe I should just learn how to control it better because I can't make it stop. It doesn't help that I have an overactive mind already.

Your not a nut , and I can see why you find emotions in dreams overwhelming but I'm afraid that's just something your going to have to learn to deal with. And it probably will be very hard. But I can tell you one thing, if you learn to use your lucid skill correctly and have fun in doing so, it will be one of the best experiences in your life. And now I'm just sounding like a guru. Anyways I believe you need to make a decision, wether you want to further develop lucidity (which I highly recommend) or you can go see a doctor about decreasing your lucidity levels (awareness in dreams), which seem to be fairly high. At the end of the day it's your call, but I hope you make the right decision

I've kinda experience this before, I was dreaming about things that I wanted but couldn't have, so I quit practicing for awhile, But now I'm doing it again, I've learned that once I get lucid if I have enough control I can change the dream to something fun that I'm fine with experiencing Knowing its fake. If I can't change the dream though i just force myself awake.

I wish I could lucid dream every night.

I have had experiences like yours, lucid and non lucid, where something in me longed for the dream. In some ways, it's a psychological thing. There was something awesome you had and now you don't have it. There may also be a physiological response. Your hormones and brain chemicals can go weird when you're dreaming. That isn't always a good thing.
