      Losing lucidty possible?

I was wondering if losing lucidity during a dream is possible? You see during dreams, I can remember a lot of details... including for example the intentions my dream-self had when doing something, and even what my dream-self's thoughts were too.

During a recent dream, my dream-self obtained a "dream machine" somehow. This dream machine's purpose was apparently to enter a dream, so to my dream-self who thought my dream was real.. it was a machine that lets you enter a dream while you are still in reality. You basically get inside of the machine and somehow it works like a literal elevator even if there is no floors above or below you. Sounds like some dream-magic lol. Now my dream self had planned to test it out, his intentions being that he himself thought it was a bit silly. So this already tells me I was a bit more coherent and logical in my dream than usual even if by a little bit. So my dream-self chose "candy land" as his first dream, I remember realizing Candy land would DEFINITELY prove the dream machine works. So my dream self was aware enough to know that if he successfully went to candy land, it would mean the dream machine works and that he will then be in a dream. Weirdly enough my dream-self never realized I was in a dream the whole time without the machine.

Now the machine worked, I got into it and it lifted me up, then when I opened the door I was in a bar-like place with people in it... named" Candy Land". Now of course most people wouldn't expect Candy Land to be a bar, because as the name suggests it's supposed to be full of candy. In fact my dream-self had even realized this. However I was more focused on the fact that the machine "worked" so to speak, and I at least realized I was in a dream for certainty. At that moment, things became way more vivid and I achieved lucidity. I guess it was inevitable given my dream-self was willing to realize a situation within the whole dream, was a dream.

However here's the part that becomes relevant to the topic title. when I left the dream machine and went back into what I had considered "reality" during the dream, I think I lost my lucidity. It's a bit hazy, but I remember it that way. Is this even possible?

Edit: also, while off topic... I had a lucid dream even if for such a short time! Huzzah! lol

Yes, loosing lucidity is possible, likely to happen when you just wander or don't really pay attention.

Thats pretty cool, I often think of my dreams as really vague so I assume once I go lucid they will become much more vivid. Although I've never really had lucid dreams long enough for me to lose lucidity before I wake up, I hear all the time if you don't pay enough attention you won't remember you're in a dream and just continue the rest of your dream non - lucid.

I think that in order to fully grasp the concept of lucidity we need to decide whether we view dreams as something which exists in parallel planes or something more akin to inception's "levels". If we assume they exist parallely then all your dream was, is a change in dreamscape. In which case you 100% achieved lucidity. If we take them to exist in levels, then that creates a significantly more complex situation in which you gained lucidity after entering a second level dream. All very confusing stuff, I would take it as half lucidity since you only realized you were dreaming within a dream. Man I love when dreams lead us to question things like this!

^ why make it all complicated? It's very simple - he dreamed his dream machine let him out in a bar called Candyland (the subconscious loves these little ironic jokes) - he became lucid briefly, then lost lucidity. No levels or parallel anything involved.

well sure if you put it that way haha i got off on a tangent of the exact implications of lucid dreaming and started to wonder about what it all is. Not sure if we can ever figure out though 100%

      Congrats on lucid dream!
Yeah it's possible to lose lucidity, it can actually happen pretty often if you don't pay attention to dream and to that you are lucid, also it happens on scene changes, which is probably your case, though it's definitely possible to keep lucidity through scene change with enough practice.

Yes, losing lucidity can happen very easily but if you try to feel things around you, notice every detail with your eyes, hear the many noises with your ears, smell the air with your nose, etc. (use your senses) then you'll have a much harder time losing lucidity.
