Had a dream that I was lucid dreaming but was I actually?

I had a weird dream in which I did a reality check - holding my nose while trying to breath, and I was holding it tightly but still able to breath! So obviously it was a dream, yet although I on some level understood the significance of this, I don't remember actually thinking OMG this is a dream! However I did say to myself, in the dream, 'If this is a dream then I should try to fly'. I think I either climbed up on a building or just jumped (I don't remember everything) and flew for a moment, and felt the sensation of a slight fall but then being caught on the wind or whatever - which was cool.....the only thing is, I didn't have full awareness, or a full knowledge that I was dreaming...I can't even confidently say I was aware that I was dreaming - its like I was dreaming about lucid dreaming...so annoying cause I've been doing reality checks here and there and thinking about lucid dreaming a lot.

Anyone ever experienced something like this?

What you had is called a false lucid dream, your brain was thinking about lucid dreaming but you were not consciouness that you were dreaming
that might be a huge jump to start getting LDs.

Personally I think you could count this either way: either as a non lucid dream about lucid dreaming or as a lucid dream with minimal awareness. If I were you I would tell myself that it was a lucid dream, pat myself on the back, and tell myself "More of this but with more awareness next time." it may not be quite right, but with lucid dreaming positive reinforcement is a good way to help one's psyche move along, and obviously you are either almost there or just barely there, so either way your psyche deserves a pat on the back.

If you had a dream about dreaming, were you actually dreaming within the dream?

It's a weird paradox, so I'm not sure if it counts or not!

Unfortunately it looks like it is not an Ld, but the good news is you are close to having a lucid, because RCs have gotten to your subcon. I have never performed a RC procedure in a dream but my recent constant thinking about wilding has made it to my subcon. I was trying to Wild few nights ago with no success, so I ended up dreaming about WILD and having a FA instead, and in the end got a DILD. So keep up with the RCs I am sure you will have a breakthrough and LD soon

I agree with JoannaB, confusion happens but all in all it's a step closer towards better lucid dreams.
I have a question though, do you put emotions into reality check when practicing it in waking life and do you expect it to work? If you don't, try to, like "Wow, i might be dreaming right now" or something along that while expecting reality check to actually work.

I try to do reality checks when I have some sort of emotion or when I am somewhere that pops up in my dreams some times - like at work...which when I think about it now probably isn't the most effective way...I guess I need to start seriously asking myself if I'm dreaming - which when I think about it, was the problem with the RC I did in my dream - I did the RC but that alone didn't mean anything, it was an action, but the result didn't wake me up - the fact that I could breath with my nose blocked was just another weird thing in a line of weird things (including killer spiders the size of cats that where apparently so powerful that they could break through doors etc)...

I do see it as a positive experience though, and whats interesting, and what I just remember now, is that in the part where I was flying, there was a moment where I fell and I thought 'NO you can do anything in you dream, don't let your brain stuff this up!' so I'm excited that I had some LD ques - even if they where not part of a real LD, I can look at this as my brain playing a LD so that maybe next time, I can become lucid in a dream without it waking me up (which happened once - I was lucid for like a minute but then woke up )

I had a dream, about having a lucid dream but I was never actually lucid... I was not dreaming in the dream, I was just acting lucid in a dream that was not lucid....does that make any more sense lol?
