      Help for a beginner?

Ok so for the past week or two, i've been keeping a dream journal of all the dreams I could remember, I even drew little pictures that I remembered, hoping maybe these could be dream signs I've tried WBTB and WILD, even pairing them, but I just cant seem to attain lucidity. Maybe I need more concentration? I don't know. One thing I don't do as much as I maybe should, is reality checks. I'll start doing them, but I dont know, can someone tell me if I'm going in the right direction? I've had two lucid dreams in my past, but both have lasted maybe 3-5 seconds and they both ended the same way - me being too excited and end up waking up. I think I might be trying too hard but maybe I'm just not doing something right. Does anyone have any suggestions or help that may bring me closer to lucid dreaming?

WILD is considered one of the more advanced techniques to use.You should probably start with MILD or DILD first before moving on to WILD. I would also suggest you join the intro class too. It's really helpful.

And a quick question: Are you starting with WILD because your first two were WILDs or because that was the technique that appealed to you the most?

      Hello emreoz28

That's good habits to have. Personally, I like to google pictures of my dream content, since it's less work (and let's face it, I suck at drawing xD), but keep the good habit What is your problem with WILD, are you falling asleep or not being able to fall asleep?

Regarding DILD, yes reality checks all the way. They are crucial but you only will see them pay in the medium-long term, because it takes some weeks to form the habit. So practice practice practice! One day you'll remember to question your state and that will come primarily from reality checks training. It may sound like you're going through all these days without any results, but you're actually doing something very important like rewiring your brain to activate itself during your dreams and questioning your surroundings and yourself. Be aware of what you're doing, make sure you don't fall victim to things like "the bus is already gone? I must be late": instead use every opportunity to make sure you aren't dreaming! Sageous has an excellent topic regarding the principles of lucidity, I totally recommend giving it a read if you want to be in the best mindset for lucid dreaming.

Regarding the short duration lucid dreams, try giving a read at this stabilization tutorial. Once you get the hang of it, you'll see that your lucids will last much longer. Good luck and post any more questions you might have

Trying out MILD? This is how you become skilled at it.

I'll look into MILD and DILD! And no, my two lucid dreams just happened.. But I remember during BOTH lucid dreams, I had a weird feeling in my body/mind that it wasn't reality. I've always thought WILD relatively easy because you just lay there but, i'll look into the other two. I'll also look at the intro class, I've been looking for it but couldn't find it, so thanks

I guess reality checks are important, so I'll give it a try. What type of reality checks should I do? Finger through the hand? or light switches? Sometimes I feel crazy when I'm seriously asking myself if i'm dreaming while awake LOL & I'll definitely check the page out!

If it "just happened", it's a DILD. If you reality check to it, it's a MILD. Just clarifying.

WILD is difficult for most people. The hardest part about WILD is that you have to fall asleep while retaining consciousness, and that's not easy. You don't just lie there.

And the noseplug RC (pinching your nose and trying to breathe) and the hand RC are the two most reliable ones from what I've heard, just FYI.

alright, I'll do RC's more often. But what's kinda frustrating to me is that even if the dream is completely out of this world, like it's 100% impossible I just take it in as reality.. Even before I started writing my dreams down, I could honestly say I could remember most of my dreams on the spot and tell my friend how crazy they were and explain the details, but while i'm dreaming it's just reality to me. Is this what a dream journal is for? to find dream signs that help induce lucidity?

No. The main reason a dream can fool you is because of false dream memories. Dream memories can trick you into the craziest settings. I once believed I lived alone out in the country in a small cottage. How could I possibly believe that? The dream gives you new memories to replace yours IRL. If you remembered everything IRL, you'd be lucid all the time.

Dream journals are mainly for your own amusement and to aid recall and clarity. Nothing more...

Ahh then I guess it's just a matter of realizing i'm in a dream then, because my dream recall is pretty good, so I guess I gotta train myself to be aware instead of oblivious ahah
