My lucid dreams are very vague

I just said to myself "this is a dream!" while i was napping, and my heart beat started to race. I had lucid dreams that lasted only a couple of seconds because i was too excited, so this time i told to myself "relax". Instead of flying or trying to shoot fireballs out of my hands, i said to myself to do something simple, like you know - eating. I knew i had lucid powers, so when some food or silverware fell to the floor i used my hands like magneto to pull them back to me.

I remeber eating and feeling the flavor and taste of the food that i ate, while still being aware im in a dream. I couldnt conjure up different foods by mere thought (only had pasta) and i wanted to look somewhere else. The minute i moved my eyes i woke up. Why?

And furthermore - many times ive read about people remebering vivd and colorful dreams about running in a field of wheat, or flying over a colorful city where everything changes form and color. My lucid dreams are not like that. Once i attain lucidity, i start seeing things in a "tunnel vision style", like when you look through binoculars and theres blackness at the sides - thats how my lucid dreams look like. Everything is gray, vague and tunnel visionary - completely the opposite of what i read about.

Edit: One more question - how do you look around you in a dream, if moving your eyes causes you to wake up?

Wow! I think that it's a petty good lucid you had there, despite the quality issues. It sounds like you have also completed the basic task of the month! See here Task of the month

Hmmm, thinking about moving your eyes could have directed your attention towards your physical eyes and that may have caused the awakening. Another thing to remember is that not all lucids last long and are top notch quality. But, what may help is to engage all your senses to stabilize the dream. You can also try saying out loud " clarity" or " I perceive/see things well/vividly". Instead of moving your eyes, just think about what you want to have a look at and concentrate on it. Don't get too physical about it, like moving eyes. Hope things improve in your next lucids! Good luck!

NyxCC, what you say about not looking at it so physically.. Can you elaborate on this.. I haven't had a proper LD yet but from what i've heard that's a technique for stabilizing, no?
Or is it just a newbie thing, and then it doesn't matter as you get better. I'm intrigued

      Oh really ? Thats cool

I remember feeling like im slipping out of the dream, like my lucidity wasnt stable, and constantly telling myself to attempt only minor actions.

Shall i incorporate the clarity/vividly routine with the reality checks so itll become a habit to make an LD vivid after ive confirmed im in a dream? Seems pretty effective to me.

Any other suggestions on stabilizing measures to stabilize and clarify dreams?

Hello Moltenmurw, perhaps I didn't explain well enough. Stabilization may be achieved by engaging the sences. If you feel the dream is running away so to speak, or is somewhat blurry, you can try to interact with it, by touching the walls, eating something, hugging a DC, talking out loud, saying mantras/commands out lout, smelling the air, etc.

But, I have heard that thinking about your body too much, may actually connect you back to your physical body, or in Thetherofdreams' case, moving the eyes may have resulted in that. I would simply suggest trying to normally look at objects, as we do in real life, instead of trying to move the eyes.

Also, in his case, because he complains of tunnel vision, I suggested if that is not possible, than, just kind of imagine that you are looking at the thing, and kind of visualize it, again don't try to move your eyeballs, just as a general advice, and see how it goes from then on.

@ both, I hope you get enjoyable lucid experiences in the future, and you will certainly learn how to stabilize properly most of the time. If you have any Qs feel free to ask, although I am still learning, because there is no end to learning in LDs, I would be happy to help. Sweet dreams!

Theatherofdreams and Moltenmurw, have you looked at this stabilization tutorial?

PS: incorporating the clarity routine in RCs sounds like a good idea!
