Is WBTB really neccesary for a DILD?

So I'm going to try really hard to get a DILD tonight. I've been reading guides on how to get lucid easier and faster all day, and I've noticed if I take 3 vitamins before bed, I seem to have a better dream recall that night, and they seem more vivid. Also, I tend to get lucid more often. But I don't really want to do the WBTB method. I don't like being woken up not naturally...I always seem to wake up around 2:00-3:00, and that's a natural awakening, so could I just use that as the WBTB time? Also, is it that important for a DILD?

the whole idea for WBTB is that you wake up sometime after 3-6 hours (depending on where you're trying to hit in the cycle), stay up for a little bit, and go back to bed. i have no idea why your natural wake period WOULDN'T be acceptable for this. i'd imagine that it would be preferable actually.

WBTB is mostly useful for WILD. You need to wake up a little bit, so you don't just fall asleep too quickly.

For a DILD, WBTB is not necessary. I can help, but you don't need it. If you wake up naturally, as you say, that will help too.

Like gab said, you don't really need to use WBTB for DILD if you don't want to. But why not though? You don't need to use an alarm, you can just program yourself to wake up at the proper time for WBTB with some intentions and mantras, and it will be a natural awakening, alternatively the natural awakening time that you already have might be good for WBTB too if it's well timed with REM cycle.

Last night my phone kept ringing at weird hours and waking me up. I would get back to sleep pretty fast but I was lucid most every dream I had without even trying. One time I went right back into the same dream and some DC asked me where I had been.

I tend to wake naturally during the night. So I sometimes use this as an opportunity to WBTB / WILD (or even DEILD). It seems to work fairly well, though I'm not consistent with it.
