First of all, I definitely feel your pain in not having a lucid dream. It took me about a year to have my first one, and I didn't have that particular one until I gave up on it. Go figure. 
Continuing up on what splodeymissile said, dream journaling and RCs are very important. We have multiple dreams per night and dream journaling helps with recall. You don't want to miss a lucid dream just because you decided to stop writing down your dreams, right?
And of course, for RCs, you never know when you might have a false awakening (again, as splodeymissile said).
Keep both of 'em up and going, but don't ignore your WILD practices.
