      Please describe your first LD

As I stated in my profile, while I have been lucid dreaming for years, I didn't know what it was until my son pointed it out to me a few years ago. I remember my first LD as having started as a nightmare where an evil creature was attacking me over and over. At some point in this dream, I began to rationalize that monsters don't exist, and therefore this must be a dream. At that point in the dream, the monster disappeared. I stood around in the dream realizing that I was still dreaming, and could actually CONTROL the dream. That began my journey into LD experimenting. This happened almost 30 years ago. I have honed my skills throughout the years, and can now LD at will. I have had one WILD dream. I tried this one time, and was successful. I was driving on a long trip. I was feeling tired, so I decided to pull into a rest area. While not even knowing what I was doing, I took the sleepiness as an opportunity to try to roll directly into an LD. While sitting completely still in my car with no outside stimulation I was able to close my eyes and within 30 seconds drop myself into a LD. I have only tried this once, and I was successful.
I guess my real question is was your first LD something you were trying to do, or was it a realization during a regular dream that led you to this point?

My very first LD was unintentional; I was with my mother in a friend's house and I was playing with her dog. Eventually I realized that dog died a couple of years ago and I said: I am dreaming! Then I started pinching myself to wake up

I didn't even know what was a lucid dream until this year when a friend of mine told me about it.

Mine was unintentional, I didn't know what lucid dreaming was at the time. I was standing in front of a door and became lucid, spontaneously as far as I remember. I knew if I opened the door I'd go into a dream scene and I could explore it consciously, but I was afraid to because I wasn't sure what to do if there was a nightmare on the other side. I woke up as my hand touched the doorknob.

Thanks you guys for responding. I always thought that all persons who experienced LD's experienced their first one spontaneously. The reading I'm doing here suggests that some people are here TRYING to experience their first LD. This makes me wonder if some people have something different in their makeup that others don't that allows them to LD more readily.
I had a difficult childhood having lost both my parents when I was very young (5 years old). For most of my early life I really didn't enjoy reality. I was a "daydreamer" in school. This was one of the ways I coped with not having parents. I also enjoyed the dream state during sleep, and would become frustrated upon waking. In my teens and early 20's nightmares began to take over my dreams. This began to destroy one of my favorite refuges from life. I might also say that at that point in my real life, I was a disaster. Acting out badly, getting into drugs, drinking etc. The first LD I had made me feel that I could conquer these "monsters" in my nightmares, and I believe that this ability helped me to straighten out my real life. In my dreams I stopped running from these monsters, stood and faced them down. Sometimes I attacked them head on. They usually would melt away. I didn't know what it was then, but I was aware that I was dreaming, and became fearless. I no longer have nightmares, but continue to LD. Sometimes spontaneously out of regular dreams, sometimes on purpose just for enjoyment. I love to analyze characters in my dreams, because I know that they are all ME. I ask questions often. I look at the dream scene closely and try to interpret what my mind is trying to tell me. Sometimes I get answers, sometimes I think it is just my subconsicious exercising...Having fun if you will. It is very enlightening, it enjoyable, and I always wake feeling good. The human mind is an amazing thing. I really don't have words to describe the feelings I get while LDing
I guess what has brought me to this forum is I seek a higher understanding of what is going on in my head. There seem to be many here that could help with that. I also believe I can help others with my past experiences. Thanks all for reading. I look forward to any coments

edit: I should also mention that sometimes the nightmares DO try to insert themselves into my LD's. I just don't allow it. If I get a feeling something bad awaits me on the other side of a door in an LD, I rush to the door and throw it open. Usually there is nothing there. Read whatever you think into this

Mine was unintentional too. But I believe people on this forum had their first one after practicing the techniques here. Anyone want to confirm this?

My first lucid dream was a DILD.
You can read about it here: Dream Journal #1, September 14th, 2013 - Dream Journals - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views
It's kinda short and uninteresting though.

My first LD was unintentional and it was a shared dream. In the dream I knew I was dreaming and I was with a pretty girl I know from school, spending a night together in a tent on the beach.

      Whew!

A few days later a mutual friend told me that the girl in my dream, dreamed she was having sex in a tent with me... and it was on the same night.

      Double-Whew!

I didn't let on to anyone that I had experienced the same dream at what I think was the same time... just because.

Now whenever I see her at school, she finds reasons to touch me. I'm afraid her jock boyfriend is going to notice and kill me.

The experience got me interested in dreams, and that's why I searched on Google and found this site.

From what I've learned since then, I don't think we were really, literally, in the same dream. Rather, I think the same visual cues and a mutual attraction set us up to have very similar dreams.

Was a good experience though... as long as I don't end up getting killed.

      Edit to Add:
I just realized the reason that dream went lucid. My cat woke me up, but only momentarily. I quickly decided I wanted to go back into that dream and did.

I can't remember my first LD and it's because I've had so many accidentally (by DILD) as a child (by the age of 3) before I even knew what lucid dreaming was, but it was most definitely unintentional and so were probably hundreds upon hundreds years after that from simply learning to realize when I was dreaming overtime, and later on, realizing I could control the dream as well. Of course this means lucid dreaming was pretty easy and natural for me when I actually learned there was such thing and started getting into it several years later, but at the same time anyone can be a lucid dreamer even if they've never had one before.

I discovered in a spanish radio show the existence of the lucid dreams, then, I found an explanation of a strange dream when I was a child.
Two weeks later, in a nap, I entered by WILD in a blue room, with a suited boy that told me thing I didn't care.
I wanted to check that if a LD feels like the reality, and I was surprised when I touched the hand of the boy, that feels like the reality.
I stayed a couple of minutes in the room, and I waked up so excited. After this, the dreams world was opened in front of me. Blessed day!
I think that both were unintentional, the dream which happened when I was a child and the dream after I was noticed of the existence of the LDs.

My first LD was intentional, I've been doing reality checks for a while, especially nose plug RC, which is my absolute favourite.
I once woke up in my bed, did the nose plug RC but could still breathe through the nose. The feeling was indescribable.
Despite the euphoria I didn't wake up, I started floating around my house. Once I discovered I can fly I really wanted to fly out of the window but my dream felt so real I was afraid to. Then I woke up.

My first Lucid Dreaming, I woke up from my bed and did the nose plugging Reality Check and it works, so I knew I was dreaming.
I went into my brothers room and he even told me that I was dreaming. I then was able to summon something and I woke up.

My first LD was back when I was about 5.

My first intentional LD was last night - a DILD. I managed to stick my entire forearm through a DC, which told me I was dreaming.

My first lucid dream was unintentional, and at the time, i knew pretty much nothing about dream control. (Didn't know how to fly, get what i wanted, or anything cool.) Despite that, the dream was actually quite amazing. It didn't last for very long, but the feeling you get the first time is great. Lucids always give me a great feeling upon awakening. I woke up by scaring myself, actually. Tried to fly, and ended up getting stuck in mid air, and i had difficulty getting down. The dream wasn't lucid at first, but i unintentionally realized i was dreaming.

Mine was a few years ago. I had used the DILD method and did a reality check after noticing the clock read 10:85 or something. I went outside and changed the color of the sky and the color of the grass and leaves on a tree. It was pretty psychedelic looking.
I was so much older then, I'm younger then that now.
