Trying to reality check from a dream and immediatly wake up.

I was having a dream a while back and I was falling down very quickly. Suddenly a voice told me to do a reality check and I listened to it. Just as I was doing that I woke up,with a very tingly feeling on my arm. Any way to combat this?

This happens at first - becoming lucid can sometimes eject you from the dream when you first start out. Just keep up the reality checks, and the dreams will get longer and longer. Were you per chance sleeping on your arm?
