Welcome to Dreamviews!
The heavy feeling is when we pay attention to how our body is falling asleep. It can happen by accident, or done on purpose.
I think you can still feel it when you are at your friends house, because you are not as comfortable there as you would be at your own home. Sleeping in a strange place may keep us awake longer and if you are prone to feeling those sensations, they are easier to feel when you not in your own comfortable bed, where you would fall asleep fast without any worries.
If you would like to learn how to lucid dream, we can help you with that. The sensation you are describing is not necessary to have a lucid dream. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it does not.
There are 2 main types of lucid dream.
1. WILD - when you keep your mind awake while your body falls asleep, until dream is ready and you cross from waking world to dream world without interruption in your consciousness. When you WILD, this is when you may/may not feel any strange sensations.
2. DILD - when you fall asleep normally and during a regular normal dream you suddenly realize that you are dreaming.
