Might live without money and live in a cave.

I have been researching and gotten motivated to live without money. Like Daniel Suelo and other people that do so.

I am going to try the lifestyle after my last year of high school and I am worried about what my folks will think about it and if they could stop me.

I am worried that they would somehow convince the law, or the "man" that I am mentally unstable and force me back into their care. They might convince the law that since I am autistic and trying to live in places like caves, that somethings wrong with my mind and that I should be brought back for my "safety."

I worry that even as a young adult that the law will somehow prevent me from doing as I wish, becuase what I want to try is very weird.

Could my parrents use things like my autism to convince them I should be brought back. Despite the fact that I am not like that anymore? Or would the law think that I was unfit to live on my own and force me back to my parrents just becuase I wouldn't want to live by their terms with weekly bills and taxes?

I wanted to do something similar for a long time and still do. I don't really know anything about it, but you should probably wait until you're at least 18, until your parents don't have legal responsibility over you anymore.

What you want to do is dangerous. Many people have died while attempting similar things. So if you do it, make sure you're close enough to civilization that you can get help if you do end up needing it.

You might be called a 'hermit'. As long as you're of legal age, I'd guess it's legal, as you're legally allowed to live in the location you choose.

Wherever you decide you want to do it, it might be best to call it 'camping' or something more normal to your parents, and make sure they know you're only planning to do it for a while, not for life. Just don't actually bring a tent or any other provisions if you don't want to.

Saving this post, as you're a complete moron in the face of common sense.

I read "Might live without money and live in a cake.". That sounded way more fun.

I plan to live near enough to civillization so that I dont wind up starving to death. ALso I plan on taking a bit of money with me so if it fails I dont starve to death. Thanks for being the first person to have a nice comment to say. It seems most people when they hear of someone wanting to live in a way that defies how they think people should live, they get really mean and nasty. I know that it isnt practical or easy. I am not dillusioned I actually want to experience this way of life that some preach about. That and I would rather worrie about food than having to pay off multiple loans and several bills a week that would keep me from sleeping.

It sounds like you are just trying to escape the negative aspects of modern society by escaping to nature holding this romantic vision that "no society=no problems". It really doesn't work like that. First of all do you know how to make a shelter like a wigwam? Can you differentiate edible and non-edible or poisonous plants? Can you function efficiently when you are sleep deprived? Do you know how to make a splint if you fall and break something? Do you know how to set traps and fish? Living in nature is a full time job (so to speak) its not easy and if you do not know how to do any of the things I listed above you are not ready. I'm not trying to tell you don't do it but take it from someone how has spend a good amount of time in the woods its not a cakewalk.

Also no one is trying to say don't do it because it is not a lifestyle that is accepted by mainstream society. DV is more open-minded than that. The "criticisms" you allude to are in my opinion just the community expressing their empathetic nature for your well being (in my case at least). Obviously you will do as you desire despite anyone's criticisms but since you came here to ask for advice well this is it take it or leave it.

      Do it man!

And so what if they think you're crazy?
You don't have internet or a phone out there, so it doesn't matter, they can't find you!

As long as you just say "K, I'm leaving now and you can't stop me" Just so they know that you're going, and not missing, then you'll be fine.

Just bring some books about survival in your area and read up a lot before you go as well.

And double, or triple check any plants or animals you are going to eat, and definitely read up on poisonous plants and animals in your area before you go, and bring documentation on them - in books or just print out pages with clear pictures of them (plants especially can be difficult to pick out).

I'm going to do the same thing some day. I admire anyone who actually has the balls to do it.

Do it, you'll realize how you are dependent on technology and civilization, and won't last a day. Prove me wrong.

Where will you find this cave? There aren't a whole lot of caves around, even fewer that are not parks and I would think that there would be none that you could just walk into and live in. Private property owners don't like it when guys live in their caves.

      Prove me wrong.

I never once thought that no society meant no problems. Of course not being able to walk into a market and get food easily will be a challenge. I dont seek to escape from any problems other than the constant stress of what bills to pay and loans. I just want to try a different way of life and see its challenges. IF I where trying to escape problems by living that way, I would not truly be solving the problem and I would gain no insight. I just have the desire to try it out. I am fully aware that I would be given new challenges by living in a cave.

I'll probably end up on the streets in the future, so I might give it a try then. If I don't like it, I'll just get myself into some illegal things to get me back into society.

I don't know if your parents can stop you or not, but they could probably try. But if you're an adult, you shouldn't let anyone stop you. I honestly doubt they could get you committed for autism.

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.

Do you even the necessary survival skills? Why not rent a cabin out in the woods as a test run?

On a slightly more on-topic note: Go for it man. But make sure you have a way out, in case it doesn't work out, or in case some accident happens. Plan it carefully, and make sure someone knows where you are, in case something important happens that requires your presence.

there is no cure for autism but you can fix things like spontaniouse fits of anger like i had all through out midle school and think more logically.

Im not even going to try it until I know how to forage for wild foods, hunt, apply first aid on myself using the things around me and build shelter from scratch and learn how to cure water of bad bacteria.

Im never going to view the other animals as anything other than something that could mual me, steal my food or both.

As Wana said, Farm life could be nice too. You'd also be able to have a social life
You wouldn't have to have a huge farm, just a small spot to call your own on which you can raise small crops and animals for food and such.
      But that takes money :/

I know what you mean, though. I've always wanted to live apart from society, off the land, preferably in a cave or some trees like the Swiss Family Robinson
But I formed attachments and loyalties much too young in life and I can't take that route without abandoning people I truly love.

Finding actual caves is extremely difficult if not outright impossible. My hubby owns 83+ acres of mostly woods in some beautiful country. Property lines in the middle of deep woods are indiscernible to me so I ventured out in search of caves and walked for I don't know how long. I never found a single inhabitable cave. I found one ground level "overhang" which wasn't even large enough to get completely out of the weather.

Look up the laws in your area, or the area you wish to move to. Check out homesteading laws. Obey no-tresspassing signs. Look up hunting and fishing regulations. If you're going to live close enough to society to have an escape route, chances are high your presence will be very well known. You have to think about defense as well- not just from animals but from other people, the elements, sickness and injury. If you're serious about attempting this, look into HAM radios or somesuch. I don't know enough about them to advise, but having means to communicate relatively quickly with civilization could possibly save your life in an emergency.

Much success to you on your future adventure!!! Just be sure to approach it soberly and with much forethought and education. As for your parents... ??? ... don't tell them. Say you're going out to explore the world or something. Tell them you'll keep in touch and do so.

I've had a dream cave for several years now... I'm just not certain about the entrance lol. It has 3 levels- a main, medium sized chamber that branches out and downward to 2 small chambers. One of them has access to running water- a small stream from a nearby large pond/small lake. The other chamber has an endless source of salt rock
During a bad winter, we can get several feet of snow which is why the entrance is so important. I want it to be hidden by other rocks- it gives the illusion of a solid wall, but the entrance is behind it. During a bad winter, though, such an entrance would trap me inside the cave in no time. Unless I could rig something to create a barrier... but that would disrupt the illusion and make discovery easier. And what about ventilation? Am I going to cook inside the cave? Have a fire for warmth? Smoke food? If not inside- where? How do I keep smoke or fire from giving away my location?
I would be very far from civilization- no back up plan for me- but there are still hunters, pot farmers and such who I wouldn't want to run into.
What about my water source? Is the stream through my cave feeding to lake or is it coming off from the lake to somewhere else? And is the water section of the cave deep and wide enough to follow to the lake in an emergency

If I was to find my dream cave, loyalties be damned, I'd move there in half a heartbeat lol

So yeah... I've thought about this subject WAY too much
