My LD was at the wrong time.

Hello all. Finally had my first full control lucid dream last night. Yipee!! I have had only one other partial non-control lucid dream before....

But here's the thing, its ALWAYS at the beginning of the night. Both of those dreams as well as most of my clearer dreams always occur within the first 90mins of falling asleep.

I was just curious if anyone else has experienced this, or knows someone who has. I just dont know how to proceed now. Thanks for reading.

I often WILD in the first 90 minutes as I'm falling asleep also, just keep going with it, if it works then keep at it.

I know people say to not attempt WILD at bedtime but it really does work, just ignore them.

If you meant DILD then sorry I misunderstood.

Theres no technique, definately no WILD. I just fall asleep, dream. And then wake up within a short time.

Ok I see, so Its dream induced (DILD), you wake up in a dream then become aware, right?. I think it takes about 90 minutes to hit the first REM cycle if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah thats pretty much it. I was just unsure as all the literature ive read says lucidity happens, or is atleast easier in the latter stages of sleep. Didnt know if i was weird or not. Lol..

I guess ill just continue my weird way. Fall asleep within 30 mins, dream within the next 60, wake up and write in journal, go back to bed and wake up the next morning with no further dream memory.

DILDs, which is what you had, can happen in any dream cycle, first or last, or in between.

We only worry about which cycle we are in, when we are going for a WILD or a DILD with WBTB. When we are trying to actively induce it, or give ourselves better chance. And that's because, first REM is only about 10 min long, after 80 min of NREM. But as we sleep, NREMs get shorter and REMs longer, so we have more time, thus better chance of becoming lucid.

It's also easier to become lucid, when we are close to waking up, since our mind is slowly becoming aware.

      And congrats

You can't ignore them, because it's science.

That's the thing about science. It demands to be recognized. (See what I did there? Screw you John Green!)

If you have REM cycles at the beginning of the night, they last maybe five minutes, give or take.

Now, you spend 20-30 minutes just trying to get there with WILD.

You finally hit the REM cycle after 30 minutes! YAY FOR YOU! Except, the REM cycle is only 5 minutes.

In 5 minutes, you'll wake up.

This is why attempting WILD is suggested after 4-5 hours of sleep, since this is when our REM cycles are longer.

Or why it's suggested during afternoon naps, since a lot of people have REM cycles in the afternoon.

Ok thank you all for your posts. But it unfortunately doesn't help me much...
I ONLY DREAM during the first 90mins of sleep. This has been for my entire life. My dreams, since reading about lucidity have been awesome and lengthened, but after that 90min mark. DEADZONE. Has anyone else been experienced this?

Not that I have heard of. Very strange indeed. Could be a sleeping disorder, or you could just really not have ANY recall of your dreams in later REM cycles in the night.
It's most likely the latter option since there are a lot of people I know that say, "I don't dream at all!", but they do dream and just don't remember it.

I had some lucid dreams (DILD) right after going to bed, and a couple times I WILDed (accidentally, while meditating it happened)

So if it works for you, keep at it.
