Thread: Need Some Lucid Advice!!!

Hey everyone, I'm Adyn and about 2 years ago when I was 14 I discovered Lucid Dreaming. However my passion for it came in spurts and paused/took breaks along the way...

The first month or two i accomplished 1 lucid dream, being entirely new to it. It was great, wrote in my dream journal every morning and so forth... But after things got a bit busier i stopped, losing alot of passion for LD

the cycle repeated 3 times within a year and a half. Now im back, wanting to get back at it.

Im currently 16 (about to turn 17)

Also sorry for the proper to improper grammar, got a little tired and lazy towards the end of it


so here are my questions:

Is LD different at certain ages? Being younger, is it good/bad? Beneficial/detrimental?

What are some quick and easy ways to get back into the groove of DJs and reality checks?

Will LD be easier since im starting at an earlier age?

Fortunately for you, starting lucid dreaming at a young age is the best thing that has happened to you! Most people are introduced to the topic at an older age, and it's a lot tougher for them to get themselves committed to the practice and attainment of this skill. The younger you know about lucidity, the better. Actually, people who know about lucidity at a younger age have an easier time getting lucid than others, they're natural lucid dreamers!

About dream journaling, there's no short-cut. You either record your dreams or you don't. It's as simple as that. With just a simple: "I remember my dreams for the night" every night before sleep, you get an instant recollection of your dreams. Also, never forget having a healthy sleep schedule.

Reality checking? Always keep them concise and to the point. You don't need to ask yourself 20 questions, or think about the answers for an hour. Always use questions that make you think about the answer, and above all else, DO them. No slacking off, no procrastination. Simple enough.

Answers in order:

Being younger is undoubtedly better. Routine and learning new things is acquired easier at your age, (Which just so happens to be my age) and it seems like this holds true in most cases with lucid dreaming. I'm not saying older people can't LD.

ROUTINE! MAKE IT LIFESTYLE. LUCID DREAMING IS LOVE, LUCID DREAMING IS LIFE. Honestly, motivation, inspiration, and determination is the only way to get yourself back into the groove.

Yes. Mentioned earlier, it'll be much easier. I feel like it easier for people who are younger because they still have a lot of creativity (Not saying older people don't, it's just easier for younger people).
Also, the earlier you start, the more lucid dreaming you get in. HUZZAH FOR YOUTH!

Well, dreaming and sleep patterns can be different at various ages. Children spend much more of their sleep time in REM than adults do, which is when dreaming occurs most frequently and vividly. Conversely, older adults will spend less time in REM sleep than younger adults. Older adults will also experience more problems with the ability to remember their dreams. As to whether a there is an age group that is better at actually becoming lucid, I am not sure. I'd be inclined to say that the younger you are the better you will be able to learn lucid dreaming.

I think that the most efficient way to keep a dream journal is to keep a notebook by your bed at night. Each time you wake up in the middle of the night, try to recall your dreams. If you remember a dream, write down a few keywords pertaining to that dream and go back to sleep. Later in the day when you have time, you can then look back at those keywords to recall your dreams and write a full dream journal entry.

For reality checks, I would just always try to look for things in the world that are strange or unusual. If you see anything odd, you should remember to do a reality check and seriously ask yourself if you're dreaming. I'd also recommend using 2 or 3 different reality checks in case one doesn't work for some reason.

This used to happen to me a lot. I made practising awareness a part of my life and it solved the problem of lack of motivation. If im motivated or having dry spell i always practise self awareness which brings lucid dreams naturally.
For you i suggest trying wake back to bed method for quick lucid dream success. Wake up after 4-6 hours sleep. Sit up in bed and visualize what your gonna do in lucid dream and think only that your going to lucid dream. Go back to sleep reapeting matra like "im gonna lucid dream" while falling asleep. This always works for me. But im not always motivated enough to do this technique properly.
I dont like to recommened wild to beginners since it can disturb you quality of sleep and it can take a long time to succeed in it.

Do you guys feel that DILD's are much MUCH more vivid and immersing than WILD's? I believe I accomplished WILD a couple of times but it did not nearly feel as great as the few DILD's I had.

OH! last but not least, to anyone who is deep into LD, how often do you achieve LD's? How long did it take to make RC's/DJ's to become a routine and to regularly get LD's?

To answer your first question, you seem to have the backwards experience with this. Most people say WILDs are more vivid than DILDs.

Can't answer the second one as easy, since I am a natural. When I am feeling good, I usually get 10 a week. As far as making RC's/DJ's routine, maybe about 20-24 days? Rough estimate from when I first started.

You will find people that believe DILDs are more vivid and people who believe that WILDs are more vivid. I believe that the reality of it is that they have no relation to the quality of the dream. Lucid dreams can either be of great quality or poor quality. The way you attain lucidity makes no difference. DILD and WILD are simply different paths towards the same exact thing.

I have reached a point where practically every dream I have is lucid. My recall is also good enough for me to remember several lucid dreams each night. It took me about 3 years of practice to achieve this. I don't use "routine" reality checks. I only reality check when I encounter a detail that is odd, strange, unusual, or simply unlikely to occur. I actually manage to reality check pretty frequently with this method because I seek out even the tiniest insignificant details of life to find something wrong with. It really teaches you to not take everything for granted and to really question your reality. As for regularly writing in my dream journal, I do not do that. I should do it, but I don't. I highly recommend keeping up with your dream journal because it can really improve your recall by a significant amount.
