      Some Common RC's

Hey guys, I was wondering what you all did personally for your reality checks. I currently check my fingers to see if I have all five and then occasionally plug my nose and try to blow. I'm hoping one of you might have one that works better for me as I have had both of these RC's fail before (might just be due to my bad awareness )

Nose plug is my favorite. Attempting any sort of dream control (flying/hovering, summoning, telekinesis, ect.) is good too, especially once you figure out what your strengths are.

Reality checks failing, especially the nose plug, is a matter of confidence. Once you experience air blowing through your plugged nose a few times, you gain confidence in it and it hardly ever fails again.

Ecco was deleted when I was bored and felt the need for a change. Maybe I'll bring him back to life in my signature one day...

The nose pinch RC failed me a couple times too, and in an attempt to prevent that, I came up with a few 'rules': 1. When you try to breathe out, expect to be able to breathe out through your pinched nostrils. 2. Try at least 3 exhales. and 3. This is for any other RC, do it mindfully, not as an automatic, boring chore.
Another RC I do that never failed me is making (smallish) things float, it's really simple, quick and effective, which imo is how every good RC should be.

Thanks guys for the help, I'll try and use the tricks and such you guys mentioned above. It's actually kinda funny, when I do my RC's in dreams, I try to think of a rational reason of why said RC is working. One time I saw my fingers and there were seven, so I thought that my contacts were messed up causing me to have double vision! Ive figured out from these forums that I need to do the RC with the intention of knowing whether or not it's a dream now, instead of robotically checking.

My method for not missing the nose plug is doing it more than once. Because I once thought that I just wasnt plugging hard enough, and the other night I had to do it several times to make sure for the same reason.
So what I just breathe in, plug my nose firmly, and breathe out as hard as I can, and I do that two to three times, but not always right after each other (though sometimes I do), and while doing it I ask myself if I'm dreaming. I also make sure to pay close attention to the reality check and not just do it real quick and be done with it, sometimes even holding it there for a few seconds. And then every now and then I'll do an extra thing like expecting myself to float upwards or just try some dream control (like one time I tried to make lightning bolts shoot down in a field, or like I said with floating), and you HAVE to expect it to happen, like really know that it will, or else that won't work.

It helped me the other night when I nose plugged like 10 times and thought I was still awake, so I tried floating and it worked and I went lucid, so this helps if you try to brush off a reality check but youre still not entirely sure if youre awake.

I was just going to post about RCs failing.
Last night I got lucid, and decided to nose-pinch, but it failed twice. The nose-pinch has worked quite a few times for me in the past, and this was the first proper failure. Because I was lucid and knew it was a dream, I then tried to push my fingers through my palm, but that didn't work either, at least it felt like it didn't work, even though my hands were all "dreamy". I then carried on walking through the dream scene, but after a few seconds it faded and I woke up.
I think the problem is I've been trying to not get too excited, so as not to wake up, but that means staying a bit less "wide awake lucid", and more dreamy lucid, trying to just observe in a casual way. It could be that's why the RCs failed?

The nose pinch has always been my main RC. It's often described as being "infallible", but it isn't. I think there could be a tweak somewhere that would make it more reliable, but I will have to get lucid more often to test the possible tweaks.
My LDing record, if you want to hear about it, is about 4 WILDs, 1 DEILD, and the rest DILDs.
