      Is it normal?

      Whenever I get lucid, any dream characters that were present in my dream beforehand randomly disappear. I don't "tell" them to disappear, they just do.

      Is this normal?

      If you want to keep the previous DCs you'll need to stay calm when you gain lucidity and not get excited by it. Drastic stuff often happens to me when I get lucid. Once i realised i was dreaming and for the next minute i was violently flung around my room like a ragdoll by an invisible force.
