Talking First WILD! first trime trying, great dream, bad night. thoughts?

      First WILD!

This was also the first time i have tried WILD. I have been practicing awareness and self awareness for weeks, started meditation rather recently, and have been solely trying DILD for weeks. been Journaling regularly too. It was a long and tough night, very bad sleep but what a great dream. i posted the important below, and the link to the DJ, but it is kinda long.

      DJ HERE:
LUCID DREAM 3 (March 7, 2015) First Wild! Exploring in the darkest Night - Dream Journals - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views

      so now the details-

here is a part from the DJ so i dont need to retype:

I Woke up at about 4:40AM without any alarm and got out of bed to get a drink, use bathroom, ect. i only stayed out of bed for about 10ish minutes, and got back into bed. I was assuming i was going to fall back asleep after about 20 minutes or less, man was i wrong. i laid motionless on my back other than an occasional itch or two that disrupted me. i laid for a while and started meditating trying to get myself to sleep. i counted my breaths and paid attention to them carefully counting up and down from 10. I would start getting images in my head, "dreamlets" forming and playing out, but for some reason i would immediately snap to an awareness state and wake up a bit. no matter how hard i tried to make myself sleep I kept snapping to a state of awareness no matter how lost in thought I felt. I thought 20 minutes had passed since i last checked the clock at about 5:00AM, and saw to my disbelief it was 6:00AM! i had a few disturbances by people awake at 5:30AM for some reason and that added to it but i was up for an hour and 12Mins. I finally rolled on my side feeling somewhat defeated by my inability to sleep and promptly fell asleep, only i didn't just go to sleep.
I thought i had merely past to sleep, there was a slight gap of nothingness. Next thing i know i was dreaming, in the beginnings of transcending into REM, stuck in place and was pretty sure it was sleep paralysis, as i have already experiences countless times. I heard a lot of strange sounds out of my control, and some scary vivd images. I instantly had awareness kick, like it had done all night while awake, and I knew I Had somehow made it!

i think i was too excited before hand

any thoughts? does this happen to anyone else? and importantly, will it get easier to go to sleep with practice?

Congrats man. I laid in bed for 3 hours yesterday morning attempting a WBTB in and out of consciousness. I couldn't believe it had been 3 hours... unfortunately I was not rewarded with a lucid dream either - only a dream where i was attempting to lucid dream (laying down in the dream trying to meditate and go to sleep). It's amazing how much time can pass when you are really trying to get back to sleep but also meditating on breaths/senses/etc. It's worth it though because you will become lucid... maybe not every time, but it will happen. Maybe mine from the other day could be considered a wild as well... i basically did the same thing you did and in the same amount of time too lol (last a little over an hour as well from trying to sleep until wake up).

      Hi Dodge,

I think what you are describing are Hypnogogic hallucinations, or HH. These happen on the verge of sleep. Sometimes we notice them, sometimes we don't. We are more likely to notice them when we are WILDing. Which means we are letting our body fall asleep while we are paying attention to the process. This awareness helps us notice these dreamlets and also other HH, which on top of visuals, can be audio, tactile or feeling of movement.

To the contrary to common belief, these are not SP, but normal signs of our body falling asleep and forming of dreams.

Getting excited and snapping out of it is normal, since it's such a cool and unexpected experience. It helps if you tell yourself before sleep "I will see cool stuff, but I will stay a passive observer. I will get excited and celebrate when I wake up later". Haha, or something like that.

But if you keep calm and keep your awareness little longer, you will notice your dreamlets changing into dreams and depending on how the dream forms, you can enter it and be in a lucid dream. http://www.dreamviews.com/wake-initi...into-wild.html

Also, the scary images or sounds don't need to be there. If you hear/see something you don't like, just think of changing it into something else. You hear a lion roaring by your head? Tell yourself "awww, my cat came to keep me company". That will change the sound to your cat's meowing. You see a monster? Say, ohh look at that cute bunny. And it will change into that. Dreams, HH are formed by our expectations and thoughts.

Good luck and many happy HH and LDs
