Question First lucid dreams, but a question...

Ok, everyone, so after 18 long days (and nights) of hard work at lucid dreaming, just last night, I had one! Well, two actually. Or three. I'm not really sure. Let me explain.
I had several snippets of dreams last night where I realized that I was dreaming. In each of them I started flying, but soon I lost my lucidity. I'm not sure exactly how many times that happened, but it was at least two. During each of those times, I knew I was dreaming, but I wasn't really that much aware. Like, somehow I didn't feel that connected to myself, I don't know how to explain. One more thing about these dreams was that I wasn't even that happy or excited to have my first lucid dream.

I also had another dream last night that I'm not sure was lucid. I was flying inside a building for a while, then went outside and started flying there. I remember thinking about using different flying techniques that I found in lucid dreaming books, and they worked. When I started flying, I even thanked God, like a prayer! The funny thing is though, when I finally landed, I said out loud that it had not been a lucid dream. Like, what the heck? I even was remembering things from the real world! And, I can remember that dream a lot more clearly then the for sure lucid ones. Could any one help explain if it was a lucid dream or not? (Also, this dream did not begin with a reality check, or me realizing that I was dreaming, or anything similar.)

Congratulations on your first lucid dream! The hard work has paid off

I can't really answer your questions - I'm not too experienced myself. But I do know that I first got the feeling of exictement that you're missing, when I had my first controlled lucid dream. Before that I had a couple of dreams where I knew I was dreaming, but didn't really do much about it. But then one night, I remembered to do a reality check (counting fingers). It worked and I think the decision to gain some control came with it - and my dream sort of snapped into focus. That's when the excitement rushed in

But anyway, I'm sure there will be lots more lucid dreams for you now, and lots of crazy adventures waiting for you!

      Happy dreaming

Thanks! I'm hoping for better/clearer lucid dreams tonight. The one that I don't think was a lucid dream was way more clear (and fun) than the actual lucid dreams. Tonight if I have a lucid dream I will just think really hard about what it means that I am dreaming. I also heard that reminding yourself that you are dreaming throughout the lucid dreams helps, too. I am excited!!!!!!!!!!!!

      Hey annabeau,
congratulation to you first success. Stay diligent and dont stop your daywork. Lucid Dreaming is all about consistency. And now you can be more selfconfident that you move in the right direction but dont be disappointed if you wont have the next lucid this night or tomorrow. value your non lucid dreams aswell. this helps not to get frustrated and to keep up your work!

      To your question:
its funny some month ago i had the same question as you^^
lucidity is not an on-off switch. there are a lot of shades or levels or whatever.
-Sometimes you only dream of beeing lucid. for example you thought the whole day how you wanne fly and imagined it a lot. and then you dream like you are superman/peter pan and fly around but you are not lucid at all you just dream about what occupied you during the day (like you dream of exams when you are learning for them)

-Sometimes you kind of know you are dreaming and do dream stuff like flying or telekinesis but you dont do a reality check per se or stop or think for a second what conclusion of this fact is. your awareness is just a little bit over no lucid. you cant disengage yourself from the dream plot and keep on doing random dream stuff that makes "no sense".
This is a good sign because your overall awareness starts rising and you kind of start to distinct between wake and dream.

-At some point or some times you manage to STOP whatever you are doing and get something like: "wait wtf? this cant be!" RC Bäm Lucid!!! yay party
at this point you disengage from your dreamplot. you realize (in different layers again) what it means and what possibilities you have. then your awareness rises higher and you feel way more like your waking self. still this is not 100% awareness/you because you will do inconvenient stuff do get what you want because you are still bound to Real-life restrictions. for example you open up a window to get outside instead of just phase thru or you search for a DC or an item instead of just summon it. but there you start to do YOUR thing and what YOU want. a good sign of awareness is when you start remember your goals you set yourself.
Sidenote: Sometimes you get totally aware and lucid without a RC, you just know that you are dreaming. period.

-then the masterlevel is "100%" lucidity/awareness. you can do what ever you want because you dont just only know that you are dreaming but incorporated the conclusion/knowledge/fact what that means. you are not IN a dream you ARE the dream or better say the dream is YOU/Your subconscious. you can change and model literally everything around you. you dont need to travel somewhere you change the environment around you. you dont need an item to perform any dreamcontrol you just do it. like at the end of matrix 1. he dont need to evade the bullets but just stop them because he wants to you dont need to jump you can make the world jump for you. hehe

      hope this helps!^^

but as i said you are on the right way! just dont burn out and keep it constant and you will have a lot more of awesome dreams!

One quick question, was the dream as if you were dreaming that you were lucid dreaming? If you desire something so much, your brain can simulate it, its like your brain is simulating you realising that you are in a simulated reality. Okay now this is getting too much like inception!

Thanks RelaxAndDream for the amazingly detailed explanation!
TheBeaverPro, the 2 or three shorter ones could have been me dreaming that I was lucid dreaming, or just really low leveled lucid dreams. The other one seemed like I had a lot more control of it, I guess.
