      Constant Lucid Nightmares

My girlfriend is constantly lucid dreaming but more often than not it's a nightmare. Someone gets hurt or she sees someone with bullet holes walking around like normal, etc. She even has Autoscopy dreams where she comes out of her body and can look back at herself, similar to near death experience. The other night I woke her up because she was coughing and gasping for air and she told me she had a dream someone was trying to choke her. This is an every night thing now and it's so bad that she's scared to go to sleep and often has to take something to do so.
Does anyone know how to stop this? To stop the nightmares at least? We have a dream catcher and she has literally prayed for it to go away but it's only getting worse.

Nothing bad can happen to you in dreams. They can be scary, but that is about it. If she can get into that mentality that it is just a dream and nothing happen will happen from it, then you can greatly remove the stress. Think of it like watching a scary movie. You might get super scared, but afterwards it is no big deal. Some people even enjoy being scared like that. It is all about your attitude going in.

She is kind of making it worse by getting really nervous about it, and praying for it to stop and stuff. Dreading it, just makes it more stressful. So my advise is not to worry about having a nightmare or not. Instead when she goes to sleep have her tell herself, "I don't care if I have a nightmare or not, it can't hurt me. It is just a dream. If you can take it to the next level and actually see it as a positive that is even better. Tell herself say "I am having super vivid and lucid dreams, isn't that cool?" Most people don't even remember their dreams. It might be harder to think like that, but if you can your problem is solved.

Also, if you go back to sleep you usually forget dreams. So you can also tell yourself, "If I wake up from a scary dream, I will just go back to sleep and forget I had it." If you can see nightmares as no big deal, then that is what they become, no big deal. You see something scary, wake up, and then you shrug your shoulders and say, "Well it was just a dream" and go back to bed. No harm done. It is just a dream after all, why worry about it?

If you think of it like that, the stress will fade away.

Hmm...Its strange how she was gasping for air and coughing. Some people have breathing troubles after they fall asleep and have to sleep with a machine that gives them air. I forgot what it's called though. If she doesn't have breathing problems at night and it's the nightmares causing it I think she should do what was said above. However,it can take time to tackle the fears. Oh and if praying calms her down its a good thing. It's like writing or getting your fears out that build up. Perhaps after writing or talking about it she can point out the ridiculous parts and come up with a better action in order to stop the nightmares if she is lucid than. For example, if the figure is choking her she can just remind herself that it is not her actual body and that she is safe in bed. Than she can make the figure disappear or go through it like nothing. So the character is actually just being silly in trying to choke her. Thinking calming thoughts or expecting a good dream before bed can help too.

Perhaps talking to her doctor or a psychologist is a good choice too. Sometimes life stress can cause nightmares or uncomfortable sleep too.

She normally doesn't have breathing issues during her sleep, she may snore here and there but that's all.
It's not something she can easily concur just by not being scared. If it were some type of "boogie man" or something maybe but, for example, Just about a week ago she had a dream she was walking home with a man she had never seen before with shots to the face and chest that was talking to her about her mom and telling her she looks just like her. When she asked him who he was and what he wanted all he would say is "your grandmother took that money, i gave that to your mom and she took it" and his name. Before she woke up she had made it to her apartment and went up to her room and saw herself asleep and her mom standing over her.
When she told her mom what he looked like and that he had been shot she found out that it was her grandfather who passed years ago (shot in a bar fight) and that she had been screaming "that man" in her sleep so her mom went in her room to check on her. It was like she had walked into her actual room in her sleep.
She has predicted pregnancies in her family this way, accidents, even surprise birthday trips, all sorts of things like this and she will repeatedly have the same dream until the event occurs (usually increasing in detail each time) or until she trys to alter how the dream goes.

Alright. Well it sounds like something "beyond dreaming" related from the rest of the things you wrote. Hopefully someone who knows more about that stuff can help you. But I think if she, her family and you have faith in God than you should probably pray for her to have a good night rest without any of the supernatural, prediction stuff or things related to it. Perhaps she is overwhelmed with the thouggt of having a prediction related dream and mystic stuff.
