Be more patient, SP can be induced at will but REM isn't that easy to induce. Don't forget about the cycles your REM goes through. To easily solve your problem I would suggest sleeping for about 5 hours, waking up and then going into SP...your odds of LD'ing will go up astronomically. Research WBTB (Wake back to bed)
Thanks! I'll take this advise and try it tonight! Maybe I didn't sleep long enough before trying this way and/or woke up during a deeper sleeping stage instead of during a long REM cycle.
