      dreaming of lucid dreaming

i just read a topic about this...

Some assert that lucid dreaming is in fact impossible and that you only dream of lucid dreams. Thus, you are not having authentic lucid dreams but dreaming of lucid dreaming.

does it always feel like this. does it always feel like your just dreaming about having a lucid dream?

because the three that i have had they all feel like that. has anyone ever had a lucid dream where they were fully 100% conscious and had a perfectly clear thought process

Why not post this in the thread above you? xD

Anyway, I've had dreams like that. Most are like WILDs in some way (I become conscious at SP, and bring it into the dream, which usually takes a false awakening scene). I know I am highly conscious in these dreams, because I can remember what time I last got up, what position I am sleeping in, and most importantly, what my lucid goals are. These lucids go slower, I guess. I take more time to really soak up the experience. I am conscious enough to review the dream at its end, and then wake myself up to write it down. These high-lucid dreams usually occur in my latest REM period.

yea i was thinking about posting in the other thread. but in this one i really want to ask people if they have truly had a lucid dream. i thought i did but it feels more like i was focusing so much on lucid dreaming that i began to dream about becoming lucid.

now I’ve gotten a little scared. what if these are the only "lucid" dreams i will have? what if they arnt what i expected?

      can anyone renew my hopes??

Well...it doesn't matter either way! We know that something occurs in which we have some level of awareness, whether it be inside the sheath of another dream or not..it really doesn't make a diference...SOMETHING surely happens and however you want to describe it, lucid dreams do exist, even if they do exist only within another dream...

      And now comes a brain-ache...

Don't worry about O'nus. He is being a skeptic for the sake of discussion. Consciousness is relative within a lucid dream. Because we are still partially asleep, some parts of the brain could still be asleep, too (such as language and reading).

Without bringing what I call 'jealous skepticism' into the debate (stuff like saying that LaBerge's studies were subjective because blah blah blah), I still stand by the facts.

For all practical purposes, lucid dreaming exists. It lets us expand our experiences and fulfill our wishes to a greater extent than do normal dreams, despite what skepticism and philosophic topics surround it. That's all I need to know to be content with them.

I can understand what your saying. I have had a few dreams like you have described. However my first lucid dream was aboslutely amzing, and did not feel like I was dreaming about lucid dreaming at all. You do feel like its real life. Very odd feeling. . Just keep trying and it will eventually come.

I had a dream of having a wake-induced lucid dream...and it felt just like any wake-induced lucid dream, even though it was preceded by a false falling-asleep and ended by a false awakening. Lots of vividness, a sense of control, and of course, knowledge that I was dreaming.

With the way people around here define lucid dreams, which is that you know you're dreaming while you're dreaming, there doesn't seem to be any difference between having a lucid dream and dreaming that you're having one. Either way, you know at some level that you're dreaming.

As for whether dream control is an illusion and you're just following the whims of the dream even though you "know" you're dreaming, conscious control of real-life decisions has been shown to be just as illusory. With the more "aware" lucid dreams, though, that sense of control feels just as real as it does when you're awake. I "decide" to fly. I "decide" to walk through walls. Even though my subconscious may have been planning it long before I made the choice. That sense of authorship is much dimmer in non-lucid dreams for the most part.

And most people around here count dreams where you can't "take control" but you do realize your dreaming as (low-grade) lucids.

No dream goals at the moment...just flying and letting stuff happen is kinda fun, and it's hard to motivate myself to try LDing lately.

Don't let this disuade you from lucid dreaming. The crux of the skepticism is over the authenticity of lucid dreams. Here are the facts:
      - Even an "inauthentic" lucid dream still entails you having grand abilities and paramount conscioussness and control
      - Your nervous system does differ in sleep than wake. Thus, there will always be some differences in your cognition. So, when you do things different in sleep than what you intended to do while awake, don't be surprised.

I hope that has been enlightening.

      Yes.

In fact, I only consider a dream truly "lucid" if I have this type of mental consciousness (All the other "semi" lucid dreams I have (tons and tons) I don't count).
Only counting the 100% full on lucidity ones, I have about one a night.

Whereas almost all of my dreams are "half" lucid when I'm trying really hard to LD

Really its all about how hard you try to get your mental power when in the dreamstate.
This is how I've always made half lucids into true lucids. I'm sure there are other ways to become more conscious, such as thinking about real life while in the dream or something like that.
