Because it's fun to fly you can go anywhere you want to go and do what ever you want to do for free and it defies the laws of gravity and with out the help of any aircraft we can't fly naturally like birds I think it's fun.

Besides being a conventional means of travel in dreams, the feeling of flight is amazing. The view from the sky also makes it worthwhile to do. Besides this, many people do it to experience something impossible to real life. Flying is most definitely not a waste of time, and to not enjoy seems to me to be more of a feat than to enjoy it. It's only human to enjoy doing something you can't ordinarily do. Why do you think people break rules all the time!

If you think rocketing through a city or a beautiful valley at supersonic speeds, dodging buildings and feeling the wind resistance against your face is dull, then you sound like a dull person, and thats just a shame.

The answer to your question is the same as the answer to questions such as "Why do people like roller coasters?" or "why do people enjoy driving fast cars?".
Its a question that doesn't really need answering because the answer should be obvious... the thrill!

I finally had my second lucid dream yesterday, and the first thing I did once I realized I was dreaming, was fly. I was actually a little disappointed, I found it a little boring. It was just like being on a tall building and looking down at the ground - not too entertaining. The rest of my lucid dream was better after I got the need to fly out of my system

      Flying experiences are often different.
Sometime they can be boring in that your only seeing things from a higher perspective. Or it feels like your moving through mud. But other times if you work at it you can go really fast, feel the wind on your face, have that roller coaster feeling in your stomach etc... they are the good flying dreams. If you haven't had one like that you should keep trying, and then if you think its boring still, so be it.

Personally I like to fly around slowly releasing arcs of electricity from my body, it makes me feel powerful. Zapping any DCs that happen to be nearby. Then I take off upwards as fast as I can then come back to the ground and pull up at the last moment. very thrilling. Don't get to do it very often though, as often my control isn't good enough or I'm trying to achieve other things.

Sometimes I fly for the thrill of it, but mostly I fly just to get around.

I don't fly. It's not that it's not funny or something, but in time i used to it, and I change flying to a teleportation when i need to go somewhere.

I token (take?) it from a mental voyages (Bruce Moen is talking about it).

Somethimes i fly, but these are really rare exceptions for fun, or because situation needs that...

If I could only pick one thing to do in lucid dreams, it would be fly. If I ever lose the ability to have lucid dreams, flying will be the experience I am most happy to have had; it made it all worthwhile. I don't know why people think it is boring, but I guess they are missing out on the fun, so bummer for them.

I keep thinking that you two are the same person. Too many references to the moon, it's confusing me.

Well, when you see both of us together, then you should know we are not the same.

Ninja I'm a little offended that you can't remember which "Moon" I am.

      You guys crack me up!

Anyways...when I fly, it feels like I'm on a roller coaster. If you think rollercoasters are boring, then I can accept that you don't like flying, either.

I've never flown in an LD, but I have in other dreams. I thought it was kind of cool, but nothing i'd actively pursue.

If the first (and only) time you've flown was boring, next time try fling really fast or a different way (vertically for example) or in some new place (in space)....just thinking of it gives me thrills....

Gravity works so hard on you, pulling you down - all the time, its nice to give it a rest once and awhile.

It can be quite calming, and it personally gives me a great feeling of freedom.
