Your main motivation in pursuing LD

Hi guys, I'm new here and very curious about a lot of things. Chief among my thoughts is that I wonder what your personal primary goals and motivations are in the pursuit of the LD experience. It can be one or more, but I would like to know what the majority of people say about this.

I have had a few lucid dreams and thought it was normal to be able to control them occasionally. It has only been in the last couple of years that I found out that it is not common and that there are people who TRY diligently to do this.

      Thanks in advance

I have nothing better to do while sleeping. Plus it's just a cool feeling.

Hmm... that feeling that there is more to life than the daily drudge, or that you can do things you've always wanted to but can't for whatever reason or are impossible. I rarely get to do the things I really enjoy, and after waking from a lucid dream life just seems like there is no way it could get better. And when I say lucid dream, I say waking up upon realizing you are in a dream. I can't imagine how wonderful it will be once I can actually have them frequently with some element of control! Not to mention introspection, and communicating with your own subconscious just sounds way cool

Plus I have heard that it is a good way to practice things in real life. If I can spend my dreams rehearsing for things (like my upcoming presentation for class), that would be a very good way to spend the 6+ hours I spend asleep (i realize this probably needs to change to actually achieve LDing often)

I use LD as a retreat from reality, they give me the ability to do the impossible. I do it fo rthe rush and for the excitement. And I am not bound by moral codes as in life so if I wanted I could kill or steal so it is a lot more fun without any consequences.
~I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.~

First, realize that you exist in this world only because you see, hear, smell, touch, taste, and can interpret these senses.

Second, realize that the dreaming world consists of the same senses, in the same vividness.

Third, realize that the world you are in now is stably and thoroughly connected by cause and effect, preventing.

Lastly, realize that the dreaming world you experience is connected only by the cause and effect by your own thought, permissive.

Simply, why wouldn't one want to become aware in the latter state? A state controlled by thought, and most haven't thought to take advantage of it.

To be completely honest, the first thing I thought of when I heard about this was "SEX!"

But you can do anything, that's what's kept me going. I've got a list of goals (longer than the one in my sig) and all of them are things that I for the moment at least can't do in real life.

      LD Tasks:
      [ ] Have a bloody LD
[ ] Play lead guitar and/or vocals in a rock concert with TONS of people (yeah I've been playing a lot of Rock Band lately... lol)
[ ] Beat the tar out of select people...

Like Abra says, the dream world feels just as real as real life only in it I can go anywhere and do anything I want! I can break any law (including the laws of physics) with no consequences at all. I can't even feel pain, let-a-lone die. Simply put, it's SO MUCH FUN!!!

you get to be God, you make the rules in your own world. its a experience you dont forget, you can fly, be in the middle of a war fight in a battle like 300..., have sex with whoever you desire, do the unthinkable, change the land, blow up a city by just wanting it too. -all in a single night. Its so dam amazing! If only more people could understand what Lucid dreaming has to offer.

Honestly forgetting my dreams just angers me, It feels like a small death.
I hat the thought any kind of experience real or illusionary that I experience being erased. It's like I'm stealing from myself.
Lucid for me is simply the logical next step to upgrade the experience.

I've had some natural Lucid Dreams when I was young, but I never thought of the idea I could do ANYTHING I wanted. Why wouldn't want that?

Well, didn´t have one yet, but I guess I want it so much because of the endless freedom it offers me. I can do things I would never ever do in RL... Plus, I read somewhere that I can find out what my worst fears and stuff are. I´m kinda interested in that.
But I guess for the most part it´s just curiosity ^^

There are 3 reasons I want to LD.

      1. If I'm not paying attention to my dreams then it feels like I'm wasting a huge portion of my life while sleeping.

      2. The feeling of being the god of your own dream world is the single best feeling in existence, bar none. Because any other feeling can be recreated from this one.
You like the adrenaline rush from skydiving is better? When your lucid you could jump out of a plane, then to add some extra excitement, don't wear a parachute. Heck, you don't even need a plane.
Think sex is better? You could have sex with anyone you like in any way you like, anywhere you like. Sex on the surface of the sun? That's got to be the hottest sex there is.
What about love? Yes, you can recreate this too. It can be debated if its real or not, but whats real? its just how we perceive something, so if you chose to spawn love in a lucid dream and accept it as real, then it is. Any feeling is only real within the person that feels it, love is no different.

      3. When you wake up after a lucid dream, you feel incredibly good. When your happier in waking life your more productive and will even live longer. So not only do I get to have a wicked fun time while I sleep and get the rest I need, I'm also improving my waking life.

My active reason for wanting to be able to LD consistantly is so that I can use it as a form of therapy to help me with all my social anxiety problems that I suffer from in waking life (By interacting with DC's and roleplaying my fears and doubts). Other than that I agree to let your dreams slip away forgotten is to lose half of your life (and some of the more interesting bits of it at that).

I just like the feeling of being lucid ^_^

Once I get better at it I plan on skating in my dreams and see if it helps with RL

This isn't the first time I've tried LDing but what got me back into it is when I heard that you spend 6 years of your life dreaming and I realized I've already wasted far too much of that time not even remembering my dreams.

I like to explore design ideas for artwork and buildings I'm designing. Its pretty cool to be able to create things almost effortlessly. Plus, designing in dreams lets your brilliant subconscious mind fill in the gaps with surprisingly creative solutions.

But most of the time, I just do it because it is the most amazing feeling I have ever experienced. I've done some pretty amazing things in real life, but none have even come close to what I can do in my dreams.

I suppose to do things one normally cannot do in life, it's like a chance for every fantasy I had as a child to become real, why write a book or read one when you could live it? It's an exciting prospect. Also...I suppose would be self discovery.
