Do your friends have open minds?

I have discovered that one of my friends is really into it. we were talking about it all a week ago, my other friend is down with it as well but he isnt very educated on the subject.

all my other friends think im just weird. I wish all my friends had open minds about this.

I'm sorry to hear that your other friends think it's weird. Out of all my friends that I have discussed it with, have open minds towards it. A few of them are interested. A couple of them again have lucid dreams on occasions, and a couple of my friends are (half-heartedly) trying to have lucid dreams.

Some people just cant seem to wrap their heads around it at all. I explained it to my friend about a week ago and he totally understood and was really fascinated by it all.
But my other friend I didnt even bother mentioning it to, because I know he wouldnt get it.
I think there is a certain personality trait that all LD enthusiasts share, and some people just cant even comprehend LDing.

In my experience, most people tend to think lucid dreaming is dangerous in some unknown way. When pressed for specifics, they either spout ridiculous concerns that no logical person could ever have, or just get angry and start projecting. It's really quite sad.

nobody of my friends knew what a lucid dream is, so i explaned to them when I got into it.

One friend surprisingly found out that she had had lucid dreams (without dreamcontrol) when she was younger and suffered from nightmares quite often. She thinks lucid dreams are a normal thing. I can talk with her about many things, because she also thinks it may be possible for some people to have "visions" while asleep, because she knows somebody who dreamed of her father dying and one day later he really died. her grandmother had dreamed the same thing. she's very open minded in that case. ^^

An other friend thinks lucid dreams must be really boring. I guess she does not quite understand what such a dream really is, because she thinks you have to think of everything that should happen in it for yourself (so that you would have to create a whole story/dream on your own). I'm going to explain it to her again sometime.

Then there's this friend that really likes lucid dreams. She hadn't had one herself, but she's going to try and eventually she'll gain one soon. I always tell her my lucid dreams and I think she's a bit jealous.

My parents... well, I never told them about lucid dreams. I'm pretty sure that they also don't know what it is, but I'm not going to tell them if they don't ask me. My father would probably think I'm crazy (he's fast with classifications sometimes...) and my mother would not be that interested. She probably doesn't believe in such things.

I think anyone who says they don't like lucid dreaming needs to have a lucid dream. I have a feeling they would change their opinions about it.

Most of my friends lack the capacity for a good deal of abstract thought. I tend not to broach many subjects with them and stick with the usual drunken banter.

its weird though with some people because my little brother and i bother are naturals but he hates dreaming with a passion.he says there is no practical point to being able to lucid dream.we get into arguments frequently because if all i could do was sleep and dream thats what i would do.lol.
most of my friends have open minds but some just ignore me because they think i am just being my normal weird self.if only they knew...

My friends thinks it's kine of out there like everything else I do.
I told them the other day
"So I have a dream journal and i'm learning to lucid dream."
      My friend said
"Oh my gosh, you're so cool, I love it. You're so eccentric." And she laughed.
      My other friends laughed.
But they're cool with it and think it's pretty neat.

My three best friends are all different about LDs.

One of them is totally intrigued by it and is attempting to try WILDing himself (from what he tells me, he's gotten pretty close).

Another one is overly religious, believing the ability to "abuse" one's dreams is unnatural and/or sinful.

And the other says he's a "natural" who has always been able to have them at will, but he just prefers not to because he likes the randomness of normal dreams (I don't believe him one bit).

My sister seems indifferent to it.

I guess it sort of depends on your views of what's "normal" or what's "weird".

Some of my friends are really big hippy's, and they are down with it.

I was explaining a dream I had the other night because I thought it was funny and my friend said "you and your fuckin dreams!" and made a face to my other friend. Fuck em haha.

Two people I work with are down with lucid dreaming and we frequently talk about dreams. One guy was chillin with Martin Laurence and my other friend got taken to jail by Samual L Jackson in a space ship.

Most of my friends are indifferent to it, but some are unnaturally hateful to me when i mention it, can't figure out why though.

Some of them like the idea though and one of my friends is apparently attempting to LD but I doubt that he really is.

People around me are fully indiferrent, and think, that lucid dreaming is something what cannot be interesting, some of them think lucid dreaming must be something dangerous.

I wish I had someone, who would really care to talk about it in more detail. But unfortunately, everyone seems uninterested.

Well, at least there is Dreamviews.

I sometimes talk dreams with people. I guess the thing is, I'm not looking for validation from people. Dreams mean a lot to me, but I'm okay with discussing other things.

The occassional dream conversation with a friend who shares my belief in its importance is always nice, though.

I haven't talked about lucid dreams with my friends, nor would I want to. They're not really the kind of people who would 'get' it, or have any inclination to try it for themselves. Sucks for them!

Of the 3 of my friends that I told about lucid dreaming, one of them already knew about it, another friend thought I was weird, and the 3rd was really interested about it and now has his own dream journal and is trying for them. I told my mom, but she didn't really understand it.

Over the weekend, I was at a friend's lake house. His parents saw me write in my DJ and asked about it. I didn't want to tell them but I painfully explained it to them. Then later, when my friends are awake, one of them talked about a weird dream they had. Then the parents goes, "Devin (my name) should write that one down." And everyone was confused. So I had to explain about LDing. Then when I was finished, there was like 15 seconds of silence. Then some other topic was brought up.

      It was terrible.

A lot of my friends who I've told think its really cool. A few of them have tried for themselves, but I don't think they have been dedicated or tried hard enough. As far as I know no one thinks its impossible, but some may think its weird. Alot of my friends are into the whole psychonaut mind exploration type stuff.

My mom watched some movie that scared her somehow, and she was telling me how pissed she was that she saw it because now she's going to have nightmares. I told her to just do some reality checks the next time she's afraid and she'll probably just get lucid dreams instead of nightmares. But she told me she doesn't like lucid dreams... W.T.F. her reasoning, was "I just don't like them" when I tried to get a real answer from her she just got mad at me so I left her alone. I don't see what's not to like about lucid dreams. With endless possibilities, I guess there can be something you don't like. But hey, you're lucid, just change it to something you do like. Oh well, she's just choosing to lose I guess.

Can anyone think of a reason to not like lucid dreams? I can't.

it sucks that some people are just too closed minded to be able to apreciate things like this. I can understand someone not believing it if they feel that it is too difficult to comprehend, but when someone believes it yet doesn't care, it's because they are too closed minded to try and discover the things that you can do with lucid dreaming and to find out why it's so special.
I've stopped trying to explain it to people. It never turns out the way you want it to, because lucid dreaming is not a concept that you can just throw at someone. Really... most of the time it works out best when people just find out on their own. the sad part is, not many people do.
