So the idea of this technique would be to play the recording back in your dream correct? Im just curious, but how would you get the recording into your dream? And that sounds like a relatively great reality check idea |

I just had an interesting idea for a unique kind of reality check and I was wondering if anyone had ever tried something like this before. I have a hand held voice recorder and I was curious if recording something on it and playing it back would make a good reality check. Do you think the dreaming brain would remember what was recorded and play it back reliably? Or would something entirely different likely result? Has anyone tried this before? |

So you record it in RL and then hope that you can use it in your dream? Maybe if the recording is different, you'll know its a dream? Or more like, the recorder doesn't frickin work, so now it has to be a dream. |

Sounds like a great idea for an RC to me. You shóuld change the recording from time to time though, as to make sure you're subconscious can't really expect what's coming. |
|
Well I've been walking around all day with the recorder and when I want to do an RC, I just pull it out of my pocket and say into it "This is a dream". Then I rewind and play it back to myself to make sure it sounds the same. |

I see a problem with this. If you say "this is a dream" while in waking life, and hear the same message in the dream, wouldn't you think that you are just rehearsing the check in real life still? |

What if the tape recorder runs out of batteries and you jump off a cliff? XD |

What if I told you that I am dreaming right now?
That your whole life is a lie?
That the laws of physics as you know them are incorrect?
Furthermore, what would you do if I told you I'm going to wake up as soon as you finish reading my signature?
i dont understand why people are always looking for new reality checks. Nose pinch or get a digital watch. End of Chat. |

Yeah, really. This has a chance of failing. Nose pinching doesn't. Plus you always need to remember your tape recorder wherever you go. And if you do it in a crowd of people... >_> |

I think it could work, but it does seem unnecessarily elaborate compared to the other RCs. Personally, I wouldn't want to carry around a voice recorder all the time. But if you already have one for some reason, then it seems more practical. |

maybe you could just record it in a cell phone? it would be more practical |

This RC sounds like it could fail easily, if recorders are able to work reliably. I've read that the part of your mind responsible for letters and numbers is shut down during dreaming, which is why text and digital clocks are relatively reliable RCs. I've never heard whether or not that is also the case with recordings, but a lot of people are able to play music in dreams from ipods and similar devices. But sometimes electronic devices won't work. Having the recorder experience technical difficulties seems to me like it would be the most revealing sign that you are in a dream. But it can't hurt to try! I say, go for it! |
