Do you find your state of mind different when Lucid?

I've noticed that my Lucid ego seems different than my waking ego in a sense. My goal is to be able to achieve lucidity with a clarity of "If I didn't know any better, I'd say this was real life." However, currently its not the dream itself that I find is inhibiting this, but myself.

In my dreams I feel as if I have different judgment or am under some sort of influence.

The best comparison I can make is to experiences with weed or even Salvia in some cases, where the clarity of the dream feels similar to that of the drug trip, where it actually feels like its something going on with your head. Even being tipsy or nearing drunk can be an example.

Auto-Pilot may describe it in some cases, but even that is not accurate. It does not describe the sensation.

These are poor examples, but perhaps using the information provided some will understand the sensation I'm trying to describe. Where I simply feel as if my judgment, understanding and personae are different. Perhaps even when they're not.

      Anyone else get this?

I think I know what you mean. Even in my most clearheaded lucids, I don't feel like the same person I am in waking life. It is like I have an entirely different personality. I react differently than I normally would in situations. Sometimes I even have different memories from my waking self. I remember things differently, or remember things that never actually happened. I also seem to feel emotions much more powerfully.

I would agree. In dreams (even lucid dreams) I feel like a shark - always moving forwards.

When I make sure to get fully lucid before setting out to do things, I'm almost exactly the same as in real life, although things move in leaps sort of. If I don't, there are usually those kind of illogical dream thoughts clouding what I do unless I really focus.

depends on the degree of my lucidity, sometimes I'm more or less myself, however usually without most of the moral and logical inhibitions of RL, but even so I think it's best described as "parts of the brain are turned off". that's what it is and that's exactly how it feels like.

      some specifics:
when in a lucid my memory is affected- that is I can remember a dreamgoal if I try but I doubt anyone here would have random thoughts like "hmm did I leave the window open" or "did I do all my homework for tomorrow" or even think about the waking state, a common exception being dream-related RL, that is "ooh ppl on DV will like this dream a lot", etc
TAKE DV members advice with caution! some have had zero or 1-2 LD's yet act like gurus
      TOTAL LD's (almost all DILD/MILD) =160!!

It varies for me. Occasionally I'll be as clear headed as in waking life, but more often than not I'll be slightly altered in some way. Usually my judgment is somewhat impaired and I have poor impulse control. But I think the most striking difference is that I seem to be completely "in the moment" and give little thought to what I'm going to do or what I've just done. Not an altogether unpleasant experience, but it can make it difficult to complete some of the lucid tasks I've set for myself.

i absolutely agree with Robot_Butler . when we dream part of frontal lobe thaT has to do with logic is not active . we dont know what dream consciousness is because we dont know what consciousness ιs it s a matter of belief and everyone can be right or wrong
IF YOU COMBINE YOUR WAKING RATIONAL ABILITIES WITH YOUR INFINITE POSSIBILITIES OF YOUR DREAMS YOU CAN DO EVERYTHING...

Unless mistaken the same part of the brain controls (the control of) impulses coming from the emotion thingy or something like that

so while asleep the part of your brain which you forged your personality in is asleep leaving your real personality to run wild.

The impulses you have in your dreams are the same intensity as awake but you have no control, so the personality you have in dreams will be the one that becomes your active personality when awake IF that part of the brain is damaged.

      I think

One other thing that I just remembered from a dream I had last night. During dreams I may be incredibly illogical, but I'll also have weird access to knowledge and facts. In a dream last night I was standing by this building at the edge of these snow-covered mountains, and I could suddenly taste salt and was wearing a coat that was covered in little white specks. I asked one of my DCs if it was salt and they said yes, and in my unlucid state I said something like, "Oh, that would make sense because as the water freezes into ice on the mountain, it leaves the salt behind (even though we weren't anywhere near the ocean)." I didn't realize that the water to begin with wasn't salt water, I just knew, accurately, that when things like sea ice form they leave salt behind. This'll happen a lot in my dreams, I'll have partial access to real memories and reasoning, but it still won't actually make sense.
