Is it possible to tell one's real name within a dream?

Last night during a dream, I gave my real name to a dream character..

"Hi, I am (real name), I am from another Earth, which is different from this one."

Have anyone been able to give their real name and continue the dream as before?

I read somewhere that it was not possible, but it seems possible with me.

Here is the link to the dream in Dreamnaut's Journal:--

I'm watching Waking Life right now and the main character guy wasn't able to tell someone his name.. I thought that was pretty interesting, 'cause I hadn't thought of it before.
In my dreams I've never come across a situation where I've had to tell someone my real name, but I have heard other people calling me by it.

This is interesting. Possibly has something to do with DMT (the chemical your brain releases that makes you dream). DMT, like most other psychedelics, are totally ego-slaying. While under the influence you may find it impossible to make any existential statement about yourself or your persona.

Fucking Castenada spread that rumor. Of course, according to him, putting a rock in your belly button at night prevents your dream recall from spilling out. Believe whatever makes most sense to you.

I don't get why that would make you unable to continue the dream... I just, don't get it, just a rumor <.<

Yup, I've actually said my name before and also introduced myself to dream characters without a hitch. This sounds like (yet another ) utterly stupid dream rumor.

Some idiot come up with a theory that if you say your name in a dream you wake up.
Problem with dreams, is once you start believing it comes true.

I hate people who start crap like that.

A LD researcher woke up immediately after saying his name in a LD, so he concluded it was impossible. Other researchers tried it, and, expecting to wake up, they did. However, Stephen Laberge, unconvinced, said in a lucid dream, "I am Stephen", and Viola, nothing happened. Many things in dreams are based on expectations, this is no exception. I am sure that, if you believed so, you could shout "Fish Tacos!" and awaken from a dream.
Haven't had a lucid dream in 3 years, and I'm looking to get back into it.
