      Bored of lucid dreaming?

Really, just because we have finally become lucid, acted like a crazy God, rocketed to space, jumped off cliffs, flown across the world, is there nothing left in lucid dreaming? Hardly.

To be honest, I have no interest in endless power. It's like how a child, without guidance or boundaries, is actually not happy. A child needs some basic boundaries so that he can feel the freedom within them. Children always test their boundaries. Parents who do zero discipline have unhappy children. They tend to be spoiled and appreciate nothing. I believe it's similar in lucid dreaming. Once we have all power and have done all the surreal, supernatural, god-like things (all a bit selfish, too) then we get bored. Perhaps. But then, we could focus on more creative and learning types of experiences.

      A new direction.

I'm going to list some of my ideas. This is probably been done before, but I'd be glad to hear your ideas too. If they are in other posts, we've probably read them already, but it wouldn't hurt to make brief mention of them here.

Stabilize dreams. After going someplace new, take note of it in detail. Why not try to appreciate the subtle atmosphere of the place? In the future we should re-enter the same place with a mental checklist, that things are more or less appearing the way they should. If out of order, try to stabilize it. We could eventually create quite a few concrete locations like this.

Writing in a dream. Even if a small amount, try to be coherent and basically write your present thoughts. Then copy and examine after waking.

Visualizing paintings or drawings. Glean inspiration and carry it over into waking life.

You could dream up your own art studio and work at a desk in the sunlight of a dream window.

We could share pictures, detailed prose, and music with each other for inspiration. Sometimes our imagination needs a kick.

I mean, are we overlooking that life is wonderful, and that there must be a million wonderful things we could do? Even realistic things. Personalities, relationships, adventures, making things, fixing things, helping people, even teaching someone how to fly, with the emphasis on the benevolence part of it.

It seems that most of the people want to experience first-hand the omnipotence in their dreams, which is completely understandable as we are egoistic humans. However, only a person with no imagination or curiosity will be satisfied with that much. I have created permanent places in my dreams, which I visit every time, tried to strech my imagination to its limits by creating different things and phenomenons. I think that is the core meaning of dreams : to explore your mind. That is why I love to dream anyways, explore my chaotic mind and see what I can dig up.

I just can't get the idea of being bored while lucid dreaming. It is same as being bored with your own mind. In that case, I could as well kill myself since life would lose the scarce meaning it even has.

The same, but your ideas won't work for me either They feel like the same old power. No matter what you're doing in dreams, the feeling of awe that accompanies your actions is drawn from the feeling of "wow it's a creation of my mind"! Somehow I lost this feeling.

Sounds like escapism! You can get all that IRL, except teaching people to fly Sorry for criticizing, your ideas are good, but what to do in a LD is a sore spot for me.

An idea popped to my mind after I re-read the comments. There is actually a theory of dreams, which sees dreams as IRL simulator. Since human lifestyle and existence is heavily depending on our social skills and teamwork, it is thought that dreams would be constant practicing for real life situations.

Makes some sense after all, but I don't know how much significance it has for our evolution and survival

ps. I do use LD sometimes for social training. For sheer interest

      Your welcome.
I can't say I don't like power every now and then in dreams. But I suppose that's natural if you don't have alot of power in waking life.
      Your ideas are interesting though.

I absolutely agree. My best lucid dreams are ones where I wasn't completely "lucid" so to speak, because I treated my dream characters as real human beings, even though I knew I was dreaming. It is a difficult state to capture, because I was in a sense lucid, even as I interacted with everyone as if they were real, and even made a friend.

I don't have a problem with others acting completely god-like in their dreams. It's their mind, and they can do what they want. However, I am much more interested in the use of dreaming like you suggested; peaceful exploration. Just looking is enough for me. My favorite lucid dream was one where I stared at the night sky looking at galaxies that were around the sky, and there was a slight neon red glow as if I were in a sort of nebula. I do enjoy one "god-like" power- flight. Flight to me is just amazing, real life or in a dream. It is so peaceful and surreal, and whenever I fly in an airliner I always wonder why people at the window seats treat it as such a boring thing, busting out their laptops soon as the electronics are allowed again and missing out on a much more gorgeous view. But I'm getting off-topic.

Peacefully flying, I feel the same way you do. No need for me to get into epic firefights. I wake up sad sometimes, because I am not a very good artist, and can't capture the images (that is the thing I don't like about dreaming, text can never explain it just right). Anyway, I'm sorry about this post, I've been writing it in a sort of meditative state because you really got me back to that lucid dream feeling. I've had a bit of a dry spell and I can really remember the feeling now.

Hope you all don't mind, but I did draw a picture inspired by dreaming, but just one. Top down perspective, because unfortunately I can't draw in 3D.

Haven't had a lucid dream in 3 years, and I'm looking to get back into it.

i agree with yosemine and dream scientist here...

i think it would be boring to have a world where you had wholesome power, and imagined it all by yourself. if you ever tried sitting in front of a blank piece of paper trying to think of something to draw you know how awful it is... you usually end up drawing the same things. you'd never be inspired if you were constantly trying to come up with something.

i would recommend just changing your mindset. don't think of a lucid dream as something you have complete control over.. because i think many of us feel that the unknown elements of our normal dreams led us to finding a way to explore them more lucidly. try and let the dream have it's own control, at least as much as you have. let it bring things to you, and bring things to the dream. if we constantly expect things from our subconscious, we will never learn from it - our subconscious is always trying to tell us things.. let it. listen to it. and then.. create and build from the inspiration it gives you.

I have gotten very bored with lucid dreams. So I have stopped practicing many times. Though, they were still a part of my life, I couldnt get rid of them, because, well they just kept happening. Nightly. So I figured since I couldnt get rid of them (not that I'd want to, I just didnt intend to have them) I figured I might as well try something new, now that I'm bored. Well..Your SUPPOSED to be paralyzed when your asleep. But actually I wanted to try moving my body. But without waking up.

      Sounds impossible.

Well, I was in an LD, and I decided to try it. I felt my body, and I moved it a little. The dream just faded a slight bit. I re stabalized, and sat up in bed, and tried to quickly get up and run. By the time I got up I was awake. But it was a good run.

      Just some thoughts:

Being bored with something generally happens to me when I've experienced it very much all on my own and maybe even mastered it. However these things become fun again once other people are involved, positively or negatively. Positive people offer insight and help one grow, while negative people challenge beliefs and ability.

If anybody were to become bored of such things like lucid dreaming, yet still really love it deep down, then I would say take it to the next level. And there's always a next level; sometimes that next level just might seem outlandish or crazy. Write a book about it, go on national television and talk about your beliefs about lding, actually learn how to share dreams with other lucid dreamers, open a lucid dreaming school, learn to lucid dream while awake, etc... do the impossible, do the things that haven't even been discussed on sites like DV before. Get better at lucid dreaming than even a shaolin monk would ever be. : P The frustration felt when these things are actually *gasp* difficult, will probably ignite one's passion, If they truly still love what they do.

And it may very well be possible that one doesn't love what they do (LDing) anymore. That is perfectly acceptable in my humble opinion, just as long as a person does have something they are absolutely driven to accomplish in life at all times.

word. I agree wholeheartedly with you Richter.....in a sense after years of climbing (rocks) I got 'bored with it', but I think I just lost perspective....as soon as I started helping others with their climbing, it became exciting again, and 'teaching' helped develop my love of the sport - i don't think i could ever become bored with it.....as long as i'm struggling through the difficulties - and you're right, helping others helps! i know this isn't dreaming, but hey, maybe some fools are right when they say life is a DREAM....which certainly doesn't detract from its significance in my opinion

oh, you know, I want Lucid Dream because I know I can improve my life in a lot of things.
but the most important thing, is that I want to know that I'm dreaming because I want to see the things my mind creates, it's just INCREDIBLE AND MAGICAL, that's the main point, I want to be lucid to watch the world of dreams, to feel them, to play with them, and to evolve, me , and my dreams.

but of course, like almost everybody, would be fun to fly, have superpowers and that...
but that is in second place, really.

Complete godlike control over a dream is just a myth. Impossible unless maybe you're some kind of zen master. A misconception held by people with little to no LD experience.

Likewise the idea of getting bored with lucids is total bullshit. The people who make these claims should be able to offer the rest of us amazing insight into control and how dreams work in general. But they never do, they just make that ridiculous claim and never have anything more to offer.

      Bullshit I say!

If anyone becomes bored with the ability to experience anything they want, as real as real life, they don't deserve that ability in the first place.
