      Riddle me answer this?

      Hi,

I'm new in this forum, but just had to join to ask everyone's opinion on the following.

I have always been able to remember my dreams very clearly all my life. I had my first lucid dream when I was about 14 (I'm 24 now) and didn't even now what it was at the time. I have never really tried to 'have' lucid dreams, they just sort of happen for me about twice a month.

After looking into the topic a bit, I thought it would be great to get more involved with my lucid dreams by trying to control them more. See if I just 'go with the flow of the dream' I can stay lucid for a really long time. But, if I try and direct my dream in a certain way by trying to make a certain person appear or try to make myself fly, I can't. I'm in the middle of my dream, saying to myself, 'dude, you are in dream, yay! so lets go and fly over somewhere' and I try to take off and I can't! But, i'm like, 'it's a dream you fool, fly!' and I literally won't be able to fly.

Does this mean I'm not fully lucid? Am I still questioning my brain about being in a dream (even though I know I am)? Or is it just hard for some people to let go of reality and it's laws even in dreams? Cause I in my dreams all the time when I don't mean to. But when I actually try...nothing.

Do you think I just need more practice?

      Maybe...

I used to have the same problem but now I have great flights...

Maybe gravity only exists because you think it does. Try imagining yourself falling upwards, being drawn to the sun or something. Like that song... "If I could fall, into the sky..." It worked for me last night.

Or hold hands with a dream person, and try to assume that they are better at flying at you and will guide you.

Guinevere had good tips. If you have confidence you wont fall, then you won't.

Practice will help, too. Just have confidence.

There are varying levels of lucidity and lucidity can be increased within the dream. Focusing on the detail on ones hands as well as surrounding objects help solidify the dream state and increase clarity within the dream. If that fails, try screaming out "Increase clarity now!!" That seems to be a fail safe for me.

It's very hard for some people to let go of reality (in the sense of the subjective term they consider objective) because reality is what you perceive it to be. The word itself is defined within your perceptions of the word itself. Practicing doing reality checks throughout the day will definitely help your conscious mind break its firm grip on reality by having yourself question "Is this real?" every day throughout the day. Naiya is a professional lucid dreamer and has about 3 - 5 lucid dreams a night. I once heard her say "If you stay lucid, you won't have to 'get' lucid ". Very good advice if you ask me.

I believe you were definately fully lucid. However, when a dreamer goes lucid, many times the subconsious mind will alter the dream to try to convince the dreamer that it's real. Maybe your subsonsious was doing something to convince you that you couldn't fly, in order to make you believe you were in reality.
