What works for me is to when you wake up, lay there with your eyes closed and try to remember the very last thing your were dreaming about. Once you got that, try to remember what happened before that. Tell yourself, "What did I do before that?" "Where was I before I did that?" etc. Slowly backtrack through your dreams until they are set into your mind and you can write them down.

      Good Luck!

I've also found that sometimes, for no apparent reason, seeing something in real life instantly triggers a memory of my last dream(s). It happens quite a lot, surprisingly. So, if you don't remember something right away, don't stress too much. It could come back to you once you see some ordinary, mundane object.

This is so true. Many times I will forget a dream, then see a person that was in it or an object that was in the dream and then BOOM! All the dream details come flying in and sometimes I can remember the whole dream after that one little trigger.

The biggest tip I can give you is don't move when you wake up. Stay still and then do what Conzo suggested, or something similar.
