Ever Forcibly Woke Yourself From An LD?

I had a lucid nightmare today and I couldn't escape from it and since the cause of the nightmare was my dog attacking me, I had too much heart to hurt her. So have you ever woke yourself up from an LD on purpose?

Yeah, I actually have a reflex I developed a long time ago that'll boot me from the dream if things get too hairy. I want to fix that, though, since I'm more confident in my abilities now.

Of course, I can just as easily wake myself if I need to exit the dream early to write something down, or just because I don't feel like dealing with what's going on around me.

Same here. I remember when I was in like 4th grade I woke myself up because a monster was gonna find me (non LD), so whenever a really bad part comes up, I wake myself up (perhaps lucid at the last moment? IDK).

I also have woken myself up from a LD before. In like May (still fairly new to it), my sis was callin for me in the dream, and it freaked me out so! So, I woke myself up. Too bad, it was very vivid and for what I saw, looked exactly like my kitchen!
If you see a strange typo in my post, blame my iPad for that.

I forced myself awake when I was being attacked by a giant disembodied hand. It's in my dream journal if you're interested.

      Yes. Once or twice. Non-lucid.

I did it twice when I was very young and couldn't think of anything fun to do in my LDs (What was I thinking?!)

Same here. I was an excellent lucid dreamer as a kid (shame I never knew what they were or what I was doing) and whenever I was about to be pushed down the stairs by my brother (a recurring dream/nightmare I used to have) I could instantly control it and stop him from pushing me down and throw him down the stairs instead

Oh to have that natural ability back

I remember when I was really young, I would always have nightmares of being chased. I had a technique where I would blink my eyes rapidly to wake up.

However this would only work in nightmares -.-

I find this unbelievably fascinating. Is it just an ability that you're born with, or can you learn it? The ability to wake yourself up naturally. I would love to learn this ability, to wake on command.

Oh, and no, when I have a nightmare, i'm stuck in it. Although recently, what used to be a nightmare for me (being stuck in a zombie apocalypse city) has become almost enjoyable for me. Is that wierd?

Just after a couple of lucid dreams I once experienced sleep paralysis. I entered this state from a really weird dream scenario.

Totally freaking out I remembered that you can wake up if you look concentrate for some time on one point. This would screw up your eye movements too much to remain in REM sleep.

And so it did, I woke up.

Of course, now I realize it's just sleep paralysis but back then it was freaking weird :S

I always imagined it would be easy to wake from an LD, but now I am reconsidering that assumption.

Wen I was a lot younger, if I was having a dream with say a monster, I woke myself up by giving into the problem: eg:
I was being chased by a lion, and I was scared shitless, so I put my hand in it's mouth - when it bit me, I woke up. A technique I used for years.
      just lol...

I had one long ago, when I was 7 I had a really vivid, yet scary nightmare.

I was in my home alone, it was in the middle of the night. Someone rang the bell ane I look at the window to see that a thing, wearing a black cape and have a huge reapear, I was like ' OMG what is that thing ... And how come its 2 am when it was 12 one minute ago ? ... This must be a dream ! '
So I broke through the glass closed my eyes and jumped to suicide and end that nightmare.

      So yes, I did.

When I was very small, (6 or 7) I ALWAYS woke myself up from nightmares. Sometimes I miss that ability.
And now.. for a Stephen Strutmeyer Film...

Yes ive forced myself awake a few times, primarily because I have found myself caught in dull DEILD/false awakening loops.

Its a feeling I liken to pushing off from the seabed to get to the surface.
Though instead of reaching the surface I reach my body.

A few times. All non-lucids. It was strange because I would always say "Oh right. This is a dream. I can wake up!" and then I would wake up right after.

well I don't know why, but any time I try this I'm actually forced into a FA which I typically then spin in so as to change the scenery. But I can wake myself when my dream is strongly connected to my real surroundings. I.e: napping in front of the tv. That one was actually funny though because I remembered the episode despite sleeping through it.
