Hi everyone,

I'm making an installation video based on lucid dreaming as part of a college project.

I need to do some research before I can do this.

So I was wondering if you would help me?

I have a few questions I'd love for you to answer.

Why did you start lucid dreaming? Accidental or on pupose?

Can you tell us what happens in these dreams?

I saw something about lucid dreaming on Horizon (in the episode "Why do we dream?") and have really wanted to have a lucid dream ever since as I have always been fascinated by dreams, but wasn't really sure how to go about it. Then three weeks ago it occured to be that I could research it on the Internet, and then I found this site!

I can't really say what my lucid dreams are like, as the ones I've had so far have been very short, but anyway, hope that helps!

Why did you start lucid dreaming? Accidental or on pupose?
Accidental. I was having a nightmare where my dad got shot and it upset me. I remember thinking, "I don't want to see this, I want to go backwards!" and the scene rewound. I realized I was dreaming and remembered my oldest brother saying something about waking up within a dream and controlling it. It happened randomly (I'd guess about monthly) for the next 13 years, til I found this site. Slowly increasing my frequency

Can you tell us what happens in these dreams?
Usually I end up just going along with whatever is happening in the plot. Once lucid, I get to control my actions, but I don't usually have enough control to break the plot. There is usually something that holds me back, like I think I need to get to safety first, or something.

When I have total control, I practice powers (like telekinesis) and flight.

What lucid dreaming is to you?
At this point, its entertainment and curiosity. There isn't anything I need healed right now, but I'm really curious about what'll happen when I try to interact with my DC's on a lucid level. I'm anxious to see what they'll say to me

Why did you start lucid dreaming? Accidental or on pupose?

I started when I joined DV, around the summertime. After looking it up and researching a bit, I eventually had my first lucid. If you mean accidental as in suddenly noticing in a dream, then yes it was accidental as it was a DILD. I did intend to have a lucid dream though.

Can you tell us what happens in these dreams?

I tend to randomly become lucid at the beginning of the dream. I have never had a LD triggered by a reality check or anything like that. I am there, and I am lucid. I usually try to explore or reach my goals (you can see my signature for that).

What lucid dreaming is to you?

A way to not waste that third of my life that I spend sleeping Also for entertainment. I would like to be able to "discover" my inner self, but I don't LD often enough for that.

I first learned about lucid dreaming from a Carlos Castaneda book in the early 1980's. At the time, I didn't think a whole lot about it and wondered why anyone would bother to spend the time learning. I was also a little unsure if it was such a good idea anyway, I mean Carlos Castaneda? His stuff was little out there. I had my first lucid dream in 1991 by accident and thought it was pretty cool. It wasn;t until around 2000 though that I became serious about it.


Can you tell us what happens in these dreams?

In my lucid dreams, I do a number of things. First and foremost, I love to fly and will usually try to get in some fly-time in any LD I have. I also have a set of tasks I want to accomplish. These are usually supernatural tasks such as manipulation of time, space, and energy. When I get the chance, I like to talk to dream characters, they say some of the most bizarre things.


What lucid dreaming is to you?

Lucid Dreaming is a way of life for me. When I awaken in the morning, I will either sit and remember a lucid dream from the night before or will identify dream signs I missed that should have triggered lucidity. I will think of it often during the day. While falling asleep at night, I will practice MILD and reaffirm in my mind the things I want to get done that night if I become lucid.

I started having then naturally. After researching I saw there were others who also become conscious while dreaming. I then learned techniques on how to do it willfully (and more often). I could lucid dream pretty much every weekend or when I could sleep long enough. Now I'm learning to do it on weeknights by getting 8-9 hours of sleep every night and applying various techniques. Lucid dreaming to me is just taking control of a dream. I have never derived any useful information out of dream characters or anything that even made sense compared to my question. Although, a lot of people have success doing lucids without trying to control dream content and playing along with the story line. Unfortunately I use almost all my lucids for sexual encounters. I have a one track mind when I become lucid. I'm trying to branch out to other things. There is so much you can do (anything!).

Accidental. It all started with a false awakening. I was telling my mother about it, and we got into a discussion about lucid dreaming. I spent the next few years waiting for lucid dreams to occur on their own.

Can you tell us what happens in these dreams?

In my lucid dreams, I often end up in very realistic worlds in which I then do random, novelty, spur of the moment things that I couldn't do in real life. Like destroy my house with a sledgehammer, or drive the public bus to school, or play God and creature creatures and animals, and sometimes play with the weather and cause storms, manipulate the ocean, and cause disaster. I'm usually never satisfied in a lucid dream unless I've destroyed something.

What lucid dreaming is to you?

A subconscious world in which my imagination, ideas, and thoughts come to life. Its almost like some sort of virtual reality game. Its largely a creative pursuit.

I forget whether it was accidental, or on purpose. Perhaps I experienced lucid dreams, previous to knowing what they were. Or maybe that was just Dream Incubation

Can you tell us what happens in these dreams?

The possibilities are endless; anything can happen in these dreams. Mostly I seek out new experience, aim to create new landscapes and discover interesting dream characters. A holiday every time I go to bed.

What lucid dreaming is to you?

Something extra, a beautiful add-on, bolted onto what is already an amazing experience (life). It is also a chance to exercise my surrealist nature, and see how far I can go.

Well, I got my first LD on a whim 3 years ago. Then, I got a few more early last year. I started to get interested in LDing, and eventually looked up more on LDing, and worked with them.

Can you tell us what happens in these dreams?

What happens in LDs? Anything and everything happens in LDs. The random, the scary, the freaky, the supposedly improbable. In LDs you can do anything. Flying is the most popular thing to do.

What lucid dreaming is to you?

LDing is a for me is a surreal escape where I can do things, and it won't matter how it turns out. LDing is a chance to do the impossible, in often a very real way.

I started around summer when I searched "why can't i move when i wake up" which showed me SP. Soon I saw something about Lucid Dreaming (I have always been fascinated by my dreams) so I clicked on it. My sister called me weird when I told my dreams to anyone so I did this in private. I took a long break because I sorta forgot, but I am back.

I like to take out my anger on people or just do stuff I couldn't do in real life without going to jail. I also would like to create my own world full of peace and stuff like that. Thats one of my current goals.

I find it as a break from the outside world. It lets me know that there is more to life then the physical part. This can also be used to get over fears (fear of mirrors... don't ask) and things like that. I just hope that someday everyone will know about this, and soon I won't be called weird by my family!!

It started when I was 7 or 8 y.o. due to a recurrent nightmare. (edit: I didn't mind it)

Can you tell us what happens in these dreams?

It all depends on both my mood and the context of the dream I become lucid. At the beginning I just wanted to wake up. Eventually I learned to have some control over them. Once I learned that I can induce them, the situations are countless.

A reason for going to sleep.

i don't remember exactly but as i think it was 6-7 years ago i had reoccurring nightmare for a few months then at some point i noticed i would change things in my dreams without meaning to and i learned to stop that nightmare ever since then i lucid dream every night.

Can you tell us what happens in these dreams?
because it happens on a daily basis its lost the wonder factor of it, its normal to me. normally its just an extension of my day or something that happened that day from a book, show, or conversation i had and sometimes i change into more exciting things for the hell of it

What lucid dreaming is to you?
its interesting to me, i just want to learn more about why some people struggle to do it at all while others can do it on a daily basis

On purpose. I stumbled upon the concept quite unexpectedly, decided it sounded badass, and began pursuing it.

Can you tell us what happens in these dreams?

Just about anything you damn well please. Mine have been so-so thus far, but I expect badassery to ensue in the not too distant future.

What lucid dreaming is to you?

A fun hobby that trumps all other hobbies a hundred fold.
