      Lucid jargon!

Does anyone ever look at you as if you're mad when you talk about lucid dreaming? WILD, hypnogogia, reality check, sleep paralysis... it must sound like jargon to anyone unfamiliar with the subject!

Usually at first people will think I'm nuts...I'll slip a term like WILD or DILD on them when they don't have a clue what it is.

However, if you take the time to explain to people what lucid dreaming is they are usually much more receptive (and several of them will even go from being weirded out by it to wanting to try it--all in just a few minutes of talking ).

I think your approach matters a ton, though. I usually say something like: "Lucid dreaming is just knowing when you're dreaming, and it makes it possible to use your dreams for a bunch of cool stuff. DILD is just how I get lucid dreams...it stands for Dream Induced Lucid Dream and it means you reality check during the day so that at night you'll do it in your dream and realize your dreaming."

Even though it's far from a complete description of LDing, it's enough to make people comfortable with the idea and probably even more interested in it. If you were to say something like: "You need to try lucid dreaming, it's really trippy. I feel all these vibrations and see lights and stuff when I enter SP. And the other night I got married on the maid of the mist because that was the task of the month. Pretty awesome."

...the reaction just probably won't be as good. That just throws around too many terms in a disorganized way and really makes it look like you're stoned to people who aren't familiar with lucid dreams

A lot of people I've met seem really interested in it... although I think they may get bored/fed up after I ramble on explaining everything over the course of an hour or so.

Actually though, a lot of my friends will call me when they have cool dreams and ask if I can explain anything about it to them... and a lot of my friends have come to me asking if I can explain all the stuff to them. I think it's something a lot of people are interested yet know little about.

I don't really try to talk about lucid dreaming other then this forum really, however I've mentioned it to a few friends. People for some reason don't seem to care much, even though the idea of manipulating your dreams seems fantastic to me. My mother is an open person, so I've mentioned it to her before.

I told a friend and a teacher. They became intrigued by it. I also referred them to DV.
